PRINCIPAL' S ME SSAGE 144miniAt1-ation Mr. Hal Miller, Jr. Principal To the Bidwell Junior High School Class of 1963 ....... The philosopher, John Dewey, tells the story of two men who were watching a rain storm. One man, a prisoner, watched the rain fall outside his jail. The other man, picnic basket in hand, watched the rain from the front window of his home. The prisoner was indifferent to the rain, the man who had planned the outing was very concerned. The prisoner had no aim in mind to carry through before the rain began, the pic- nicker had a very definite aim. That is why the prisoner re- mained listless, the man with the picnic basket was very con- cerned about the change in the weather. The moral of this story is simply this: Purpose creates interest. The junior high school pupil who has an aim, who seeks an end result will generate plenty of interest in striving to reach his goal. Our administration, faculty and staff hope all of our Pioneers have clearly in mind their goals in life and will ever continue to strive toward higher academic, citizenship, and athletic standards, so necessary for successful citizen- ship in our world today.
