Senior Class Prophecy One day after finishing the plans for a new-type can opener with the help of my partner, Robert Morrow, I left for a trip to Ethiopia. As I stepped on the bus to the airport, my foot slipped, and I fell on top of the driver. Looking up, I recognized the well-dressed driver to be Ed Shaw. As I took a seat near the back, I sat next to a fellow with an armful of awful-looking apparatus. After conversing with him for a while, I was astonished to learn it was David Walker going to get a patent on a new-type rocket. Since I had some time to spare, I got off the bus at the next stop to look around town. Being thirsty, I stopped by a drugstore to refresh. Lo and behold, there was Bill Cooper flipping ice cream with one hand and pushing pills with the other. Bill told me that Bob McGuirt and Roger Earnhardt had tied for the top place as Mercury Salesman of the Year. As I was leaving, I bought a copy of a literary paper, The O. Henry, edited by Mary Katherine Nicholson, in which I read that Kenneth McSheehan had won the Nobel Prize for poetry. Outside I hailed a taxi to take me to secure a passport. Where to, please? I immediately realized I was being chauffeured by Clayton Helms. Clayton offered to s how me around while I was killing time. As we passed the theater, I noticed that John Efird and Wayne Tice were starring in The Lawless West . At the end of the street flickered a neon sign beckoning all to the A P Super Market, managed by William Terrell and Don Goodwin. Clayton invited me to go with him to see Tommy Nash, Arnold Mills, and Sam McGuirt play with the Cleveland Indians, but I told him I couldn ' t stay. Thanking Clayton, I got off at the airport and went in to secure my passport. I was greeted by Elease Parker and Jean Griffin, who were helping the pass¬ engers prepare for flight. Elease took me into the office. Sylvia and Claudette Helms fixed my passport. At last I was on the plane feeling secure in the hands of the pilot, Howard Tucker, and navigator, Joe Sells. After we were well under way, the passengers were served coffee and Herring sandwiches by the hostess, Bette Sue Davis. She said that Henrietta McCorkle would be the hostess on the return trip. Investigating a snicker at the back, I found Patsy Lentz and Kay Crooke, who were going to Japan to buy orchids for their floral shop. They told me that Shan Helms, Marilyn Williams, and Jane Secrest were in London buying new styles for their clothing stores. When the plane landed, I saw a large crowd of people. As I walked over to look into it, I saw sure-shot Charles Gordon and bring- ' em-back-alive Bruce Liles trying to get people to go with them hunting in Africa. Being tired from my trip, I secured my baggage and walked over to Hasty ' s Tavern to get some coffee and rest. Robert L. Browning, Prophet
