Class History That particular September morning was no different from any other morning except for forty-six little boys and girls. Yes, at last we were combing our hair, putting on our new shoes, getting last-minute instructions from our mothers, and starting to school. That first year turned out to be a lot of fun for us. We thought we were really intelligent when we learned to spell and to read. Miss Waters and Mrs. Williams were patient with us, and finally we learned how to tell time. In the second grade we were thrilled by the stories of Uncle Remus. Marilyn Williams and Claudette Helms joined us this year. T.j? 9 rQ de was so exciting! The boys proved to be real carpenters by building birdhouses. Mrs. Crowell ' s room gave a chapel program on trees. All of us were members of the Tonnette Club. We were excited to be in the operetta. Mary Katherine Nicholson and Sam McGuirt joined us this year. Then in the fourth grade we had much fun helping Miss Ollie plan and put on our pet show. We also enjoyed the nature hikes, the wild ball games, the operetta, and the fish in our aquarium. Shan Helms joined us this year. In the fifth grade we were the big shots of grammar school. We belonged to the Harmonica Club and were in the operetta. This year we learned every state and its capital. Clayton Helms and Sylvia Helms joined us this year. Then at last we were in the sixth grade, and now we were in the high school building. We felt rather small, but we soon got over our shyness. Our first exams were rather hard; but, after all, we were growing up! The seventh grade brought several changes. The girls began to wear lip¬ stick, and all the girls had a crush on our new student, Gerald Hasty. Our puppet show was a big success under Miss Lucy Lee ' s guidance. ru WG i , tHe e ' 9hth grade With a su P erior feeling. Our trip to Raleigh, Chapel Hill, and Durham was much fun. Everyone worked hard on his North Carolina notebook. Our class newspaper was superior in our opinion We played m the tournament for the first time. The year was climaxed by our commencement program. We could hardly believe that at last we were in high school! Our girls won the tournament. Tommy Nash and Joe Sells joined us this year. While in the tenth grade, some of our boys began sporting their sweaters with stripes on the sleeves. The home economics girls served at the Junior- Senior Banquet. It seemed good to see some of our classmates driving to school in their own cars. The the best year of all, our Junior year, came before we knew it. The magazine sale was a big success, and the banquet we gave for the Seniors was a big success, too. Everyone was proud of his class ring. ow we come to our Senior year. These past years have been filled with many ups and downs, but we have always come out on top. Now in just a few months we will be walking out of the doors of Monroe High School, but we shall never forget our many wonderful experiences during these past twelve Patsy Lentz, Historiai
