The Bexley High School Bond functions as a marching band during the first nine weeks of school. They play for all half-time shows at both home and away games. Following marching season the band functions as a concert hand. They play at least four formal con- certs during the year plus an outdoor concert at Jeffrey Mansion in June. The band is in operation continuously from the next to last week in August for band camp until the July 4th parade. In addition to regular concert band, members can participate in various extra curricular ensembles. The stage band plays popular and jazz music and the pep band plays for home basketball games. In addition, many students participate in OMEA Solo and En- semble Auditions as well as various ensembles that are offered in the Columbus area. activities 81 1. majorettes: nancy mordoff, lynn morgan, sue smaflsreed. 2. undy coutcs—pres., bill whitlock—v.p., barb amey—sec’y, both wilcox—treas„ heidi schneider—band affairs. 3. pep band. activities 83 1. choir: first row: mr. chitty, john dermis, stucirt rose, me try ingalls, judy gilkerson, bobby sloan, lori ettore, lea shoekelford, beidi schneider, heidi johnston, lisa hamilton, mciriJyn engelberg, kim schmidt, sue wiser, marcia golden, louise krech. second row: brad tapee, elise farley, jill bloedc, Hannah putnam, judy metzger, an betz, becky hill, leslie coney, keith orr, joanne berger, lisa coney, marni cisen, stacy spielberger, dawna daniels, lee starr, nancy long, third row: rick levine, nick roslovic, chris elin, louise eschenhrenner, sue smallsreed, pam ames, betsy middlemus, don kromer, d oug wyman, sea tt friedm an, ellen brans titter, sheri skilken, tim ketcham, go il doermann, stave stowe, nina roslovic. fourth row: tim kearns, logon dysart, bob nusgart, mark palmer, cathy sohoenbaum, matt palmer, gayle smith, mark liefeld, mike price, john mayer, greg sweney, howard futerman, unice hallet, eric hunley, ben hallo, jeff metzger, howard cohen. 2. orchestra: tom harriman, waiter wulliger, on whitlock, rick levine, cindy edwards, stuart ho- sansky, pam gary, lisa hamilton, deb hie kolbe, cindy gilkerson, karen gary, tim elhard, karen lisko, bill whitlock, andy coates, Jennifer cupp, lori heiser, cindy mohr, lori ettore, terri woods, gail doer- mann, gary jay, sue ramsey, steve isenberger, gene lewis, robertu pringle, gary silver, rob mickler, john hetzel, john heller, jeff meguire, vicki Schwab, marifee stinemetz, mary dennis, suzan keene, nancy stinemetz, libby phillips. The Bexley Vocal Department was very pleased with their accomplishments this year. The concert choir worked to put on several concerts. Mcircj'e Golden and Phil Peters had the lead roles in this drama. The second play, a comedy entitled, “The Hair of the Aardwolf” by Joseph Cody, Jr. starred Mary Stolarski, Jeff Metzger, and Tim Ketch am. Finally, the drama class made up the cast of an old-fashioned melodrama en- titled “Switched at the Crossroads” by John Healy. Debi Beck, David Pryor, Steve Pree, and Marni Eisen headed the cast of this play. All of the plays were successful because of the hard work of all of the casts and all the crew. 86 The Drama Club is a means to give students the opportunity to learn about and participate in dramatic productions. The year began with improvisations and pantomimes. Throughout the year, vari- ous people spoke about production tech- niques in order to help improve the qual- ity of performances. They also presented two one-act plays and an original production. This year’s Art Club was geared to- ward achieving four main goals. The first was to display their work in the January Art Show at Eastland Mall. Two other accomplishments were their showings at both the Governor’s Art Show in March and the Annual Senior Art Show. They were also successful in the institution of a beautiful gallery in the north lobby. 1. drama club: heather keliogg—treas., marcie golden—pres., michelle solomon—sec’y, jeff met- zger—v.p., steve morgenstern. 2. art club: cloug wyman—pres., mike hackman— sec’y, john patton—v.p., mr. cooper—advisor, bryce johnson—sgt. of arms. 88 activities 89 ft a: nancy Jong—v.p., vicki schwab — pres., cla u dia pa Hay—treas. mary zeitJow—sec’y. 2. buckeye boys’ and girls’ state reps: ohn bernlohr, robin pringie, lisa coney, dave isaacs. The Bexley Chapter of Future Teachers of America has partici- pated in mciny activities this year. Among them have been the observa- tion and teacher assistant program at Cassinghum Elementary and a teacher’s tea in May. Programs have covered such varied topics as Cana- dian and Russian education and in- ner-city teaching. The Buckeye Boys’ State and the Buckeye Girls’ State both take place during the summer. They give the participants the opportunity to learn about and partake in the activities in the Ohio State Government. They form their own House of Representa- tives, Senate, and state, city, and county offices. During the course of the week several Ohio officials, such as Governor Gilligan spoke to the students. Ohio Chief Justice O’Neil of the Ohio Supreme Court in- augurated the elected students at Buckeye Girls’ State. It was a tre- mendous experience for those involved. The Bexley Girls’ Ath- letic Club is the largest and most active organiza- tion in the school. This year it had over 200 mem- bers who met once a month; however, there were activities daily. The Bexley Chap- ter of Hi-Y meets three times a month, once for a discussion of government pro- ceedings, and twice for basketball games. The team partici- pates in a league at the East Side YMCA. In March two or three of the members will participate in a “Youth in Govern- ment” weekend by attending Ohio Legis- lature meetings and by passing model laws and electing model officials. Learning a Christian living and govern- ment proceedings are the main bases for the organization. The Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) is a group of high school athletes who meet once every two weeks to talk about God and their individual lives. Once a month is a prayer breakfast at an area high school where members unite to discuss their reli- gious lives. Often active Christian athletes such as Archie Grifin and Rex Kern speak at the break- fasts. Celebrating its 50th year, the TORCH expanded to a six page paper, giving the students increased coverage of clubs, stu- dents, sports, and classroom news. The TORCH also offers many new features in- cluding movie and TV reviews, a student opinion column, and cartoons. In September of 1973, the TORCH received an all-American rating from the National Scholastic Press Association (NSPA), the highest honor the NSPA can give to a school newspaper. 1. page editors: judy stone, heth wilcox, steve green- berg, v.j.
