This change was necessary since the squad was small and practices irregu- lar due to the boys doing their share in relieving the farm labor shortage. This type of game required experienced backsg these Coach Bothwell did not have so Beverly failed to get into the winning colxmm. Jack McGeary - A senior end and kicker. A touchdovln pass receiver. Ralph Riekemberg - Ended the season as a driving line plunger. Gilbert Konalke - Nice ball -handling from the quarterback spot. Harlen McG:l.nness - Smll but did not lack fight. B111 Cole - Captain, an offensive center and defensive line backer. Harold Bergman - Cool headed. Almys seeing the openings. Herbert Traulsen - Good sized. Shows promise as a center. John Phelps - Did not go out until his senior year. Alfred Phelps - Fast. A Promising back for next year. Leroy Cole - Played good defensive end until he broke his wrist. Don Stover - Big freshman showing possibilities of a backfielder. Eugene Blatchley - Watch this freshman spark plug' next fall. Dick Webb - Small but a good water carrier. Don Pierce - Only out part time. A Bob Kissick - A freshman who should nuke a good lineman. LeRoy Morton - Pep of all the practices. L. Bothwell The opening of the season for basketball found twenty boys out for practice. Some of these boys were really green freshmen, since most of them had not had the opportunity to play any grade school ball. How- ever, by the close of the season, prospects for a team next year were quite encouraging. The B team faced a tough schedule this year in the Solomon Valley Athletic League as well as the. outside games. The results of the season showed them the 'rlotors in only three of their fourteen games. The usual starting lineup for the Bobkittens consisted of Bob Kissiok and .LeRoy Morton, forsardsg Gilbert Kowalke and Harlan lloGin- ness, guards g with Leroy Cole at center, The all-around substitute was Willard Meyer who played all the spots on the team. High point mn for the year for the Bobkittens was Leroy Cole, who played and scored in every game, with a total of 'IO points. LeRoy lor- 'son scored a total of 45 points in the eight games he played. LeRoy underwent an appendioitis operation just as the season got started. B team letters were awarded to Leroy Cole, LeRoy Horton, sopho- moresg Robert Kissick, freshnang Hsrlen lloGinness, seniorg and Willard Meyer, junior. John Phelps, senior, Dick Webb, and Donald Stover, freshmen, also received letters as substitutes. Primary Room Hrs. To my mind cams a vision of Eunice, How she used to throw oupid darts. Now she's head of a Lovelorn Cottage, Called the 'Harbor of Broken Hearts.' John Phelps is a model for toothpaste, He is really a handsome young man. Lois Pautsch is a singer at Westfall, In the night club of J. Mooneyhan. Then came Harlen MoGinness, the genius At original humor and rhyme, Instead of a oolmmm in the Tribune, He's author of 'Jokes for a Dims.' Then I saw a young lady wrestler, Hold your hats! It's Luoreta McBride. There's a Red Cross nurse attendant, It's Madonna, there by her side. Gilbert's a professor at Harvard, With a :mustache which catches your eye, And the new Fred Astaire is Bill Cole, And the girls - first they swoon, they they sigh Lawanvs a model for shampoo, You recall her beautiful hair. And Wi.nnie's s model for mothers, With several small children so fair. I could then see our friend Jack lleGeary, On the farm of his daddy-in-law. They have filled every room in the farmhouse With more children than you' ever saw. Next camo a clear vision of Ralph, He's just what you thought he would be, A banker with plenty of money, And a beautiful 'blond on each knee. We are sure this class will be prosperous, They are gay, dependable, smart. We wish them peace, health, and gladness, As from this school they depart. BASKETBALL V . Prospects for s successful season looked fairly good when basket- ball time rolled around. The Bobcats had to their credit ohree ' 'Utter men from last yea:-'s squad, Ralph Riekenberg, Tack lleGeary and Bill Cole, five second team lettermen, and some promising freshmen. The schedule for the year consisted or fifteen games, five in the Solomon Valley League and ten outside. In the league play during the year, the Bobcats came home victorious only once, when they defeated Delphos. Of the outside games Beverly came out on top five times. Although they participated in two tournaments, the S.V.A.L. con- test at Delphos, and the district tourney at Bennington, the Bobcats failed to get farther than the first night's running at either place. Results of the season's play showed the home team Iicth a total of 409 points to their opponents 480. High point man of the year 'las Harold Bergman with 94 points. Close behind h:l.m were Bill Cole. and Haerle Berman, each with 87 points. At the close of' the basketball season seven lx team letters were given. Four of these went to seniors. The letters of' this season mde the third letter for Jack HcGeary, senior, the second for B111 Cole and Ralph Riekenberg, seniors, and the first letter for Harold and Haerle Bergman, Juniors.
