was a Halloween Party and The Enchanted Christmas Tree was the first play performed by the drama class. At a yearbook assem- bly that year, it was suggested to the student body that they should buy a WATCHTOVVER to show their grandchildren in 1970. Reporting on the school scene were 29 jour- nalists dedicated to publishing a school weekly, which had the name High Lights. High was to repre- sent the hill upon which the school was situated and the high ideals which the students stood for. The Lights expressed the illuminat- ing influence of education. Spring 1928 introduced the school's first annual, The WATCHTOWER, a 144- page publication with a foreword by famed humorist Will Rogers. lt was dedicated to the students of Beverly Hills High School in honor of the two graduating seniors. Soon after breaking away from Los Angeles' jurisdiction in 1935, Beverly Hills High School was united with the elementary schools to form a unified school district. The high school's enrollment was increasing rapidly and the school l

that was originally planned for 700 necessitiated expansion, and it increased its capacity to 2,300 During the period of 1929 to 1960, a fine arts building, more tennis courts, bleachers, the swim-gym, guidance office, business educa- tion building, and the science building with laboratory facilities were added. A new structure, which included a library, cafeteria, planetarium, resource centers, laboratories, parking facilities, little theater, and music room, were added following a school bond issue in 1965 to try to instill an ideal learning situation. The 1960's offered Beverly Hills High School many new challenges. As the mini, midi, and maxi lengths invaded the school, so did groom- ing standards. The dress code then became one in which casual attire was acceptable. The Sixties also brought about an air of disillusion- ment across the country. The as- sassinations of John F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King, and Robert F. Kennedy shocked America. The astronauts landing on the moon
