Spain .Looking upon our schools as a nucleus from which continuing educational growth emanates, the Beverly Hills High School teaching staff and students anticipate the summer months as a time for enrichment activity. Travel and study throughout the world has become an integral part of the learning process. France A basic portion of Beverly Hills educational philosophy is the belief that a student enlight- ened by liberal learning must be aware of the revolutionary changes in the world during this century and must clearly perceive the maior forces at work both at home and abroad. In classrooms and laboratories at the high school, students are exposed to both practical and theoretical applications of these ideas. Continu- ously expanding backgrounds and incentives for the development of knowledge are provided through an alert, active Board of Education. Combined French and Spanish Travelers Cafe on the Champs Elysee Each year under the auspices of the Institute of European Studies, groups of Beverly Hills stu- dents spend six weeks in the maior centers of learning in Europe. During the summer of 1966 Mr. Victor Seine and Mrs. Simone Laidig of our Foreign Language Department took students to Madrid, Spain and Nantes, France where they lived with local families while studying. Both groups spent the remaining vacation weeks traveling to England, Germany, Italy, and Swit- -W M- zerland. Fountain ofthe Lions

wr.-1 ,517 Some ot the students travelled in small groups. They wanted to see the world from a different point of view. Seniors Jon Slutsky and Tom Gaines toured Europe by bicycle, staying at youth hostels in small villages and taking their Travels at a slow pace. Beverly students saw all phases of England. Whether by Westminster Abbey, main hall pedal or plane, most of them visited Canterbury Cathedral. Jon- Slutsky photographed the exterior view here. Junior Ira Moskatel took the picture ot the main sanctuary of West- minster Abbey in London, sight of many controversies in English history. Seeing an entirely different view of the British lsles, Senior Jett Seltzer included in' his itinerary a visit to Stone- henge. This remarkable construction was built prior to 1500 B,C. by an- ancient civilization apparently seeking to explain some of the mysteries of astronomy. if 1' - ' ,rim 'W-W,,1,r,.,., tw, - ' - . g. 1., L 5' -,lars7ri'i6fi:gJ:rJ1'. u f r u f l w irltlilllllllliviirlrifirliifilr.'fr1i:iiil,v,'V we 'N . , ,wwf 1-1 If- vi.
