FOREWORD Between the covers of this-the l936 Watchtower-is recorded the colorful first chap- ter of a new era in Norman history. ln the past year Beverly has embarked upon 'a new venture, has entered the realm of a new NormanrWorld. ln athletics, forensics, and al- most every phase of school life, Normans have gone on to new fields of endeavor. The school haslcompeted with new rivals in a new league. ln keeping with this spirit of ad- venture and innovation the Watchtower has tried to give you originality and progress as its key note. The progress that future Watchtowers should reflect, can come about only through able leadership. The development of this new Norman World will be determined byvthe efforts of our Norman leaders. Hence, six outstanding leaders in their particular fields have interpreted Leadership, in forewords to each section. judge Leon R. Yankwich for Administration, President Ray Lyman Wilbur for Classes, Rabbi Edgar F. Magnin for Or- ganizations, Eddie Cantor for Activities, Amos Alonzo Stagg for Athletics, and joe E. Brown for Features introduce the Worlds which make up the yearbook. The art work of the annual, modern in style, represents Norman progress. The end- sheets are decorated with a panorama of Norman life, picturing a parallel between the Nor- mans of Beverly and the Normans of Old: They show the Knights of Beverly and the Knights of ancient Normandy, the warriors of the Norman battlefield and the warriors of the modern gridiron. ln the background is a globe, symbolic of our theme. As the art work depicts a Norman World, so does theentire Watchtower reflectits development, activity, and achievement. As we look back upon these events, let us look forward. We can all strive to be Knights of Progress. With progress as its key-note, the Watchtower has dedicated this annual to a leader in not one but many fields, to a man whose name is his eulogy, to WILL ROC-ERS. EDITOR.
