i i 'f 2 2 l l ARNOLD A. BOWHAY Principal Preparation for leadership is one ot our aims in the Beverly Hills l-ligh School. There is no dearth of material here, for the ability ot our group is recognized. The question is, do we possess all the qualities necessary for leadership? Do we see leadership as a privilege only, or do we recognize the responsibilities and obligations that it entails? Everyone will not develop these qualities to the same degree, and many will not dis- cover their talents while still in school. While no one will lead in all activities, it is possi- ble, however, for practically everyone to lead in some, Leadership is relative, everyone pos- sessing it to a greater or less degree. just what, then, is needed beside an intelligent understanding? Ot what avail is an interest in the world and sympathy tor misfortune it nothing is done to remedy conditions? What additional qualities must leaders possess to ensure success? Leaders must not stop with knowing, they must not stop with sympathy. They must learn to dog they must act. lt is in this talent that our guiding genius is found, it is by this that our strength of will and organizing ability can gather an intelligent, loyal follow- ing, so that we, the leaders and the followers, can work together for a better humanity. lt is this ability to carry thought into action that distinguishes the leader. True leaders must sacrifice to meet these ideals. lt is hard-but can Beverly be satisfied with less? ' 9
