LANGUAGE DEPARTMENT Under the direction of Miss Elsie Wat- ters, the foreign language department broadened the students' world by teaching German, Spanish, French, and Latin. In the classrooms. grammar, vocabulary, and the ability to read, speak, and understand these tongues were taught. To enable the student to progress at a faster pace, the language laboratory strengthened the students' abil- ity to comprehend the spoken dialect. In addition, foreign language clubs introduced the culture of the country while providing enjoyment for the students. Through the efforts of the teachers of this department, foreign language students finished the year, having learned much about a foreign ver- nacular and culture.

EXPLORI G MATHEMATICS DEPARTMENT The Mathematics program offered stu- dents a wide selection of courses in the classroom and after school. A voluntary af- ter-school group, the College Board Review Class, headed by Mr. Wendell Crawford, checked and examined common problems often found on the math S. A. TPS and the Achievement Tests. Chairman of the Math- ematics Department, Mr. Thomas Skiffing- ton, supervised a high standard of teaching and held the responsibilities of textbook se- lection and subject planning. Courses in al- gebra, geometry, college and general math gave students a firm comprehension in this area. By applying previous mathematical knowledge, students better understood their present work and increased their back- ground for future courses.
