INDUSTRIAL ARTS Industrial Arts, woodworking and metal-working were a major subject offered to boys taking a general course. Sophomores and Juniors received a half year's instruction in each shop, while the Seniors were allow- ed to elect one course for the entire year. Under the direction of Mr. Daniel Shea and Mr. Otto Winquist, the boys received proper instruction in the use of hand tools and power machinery. ln this man- ner, they learned to develop skills that will be useful in the future for basic home repairs. This also gave them an opportunity to decide if they wanted to choose mechanical work for their careers or enter into appren- ticeship in areas other than those taught in the Trade High School. The boys made many projects of their own choice during the year. Some of these projects in- cluded bookshelves, coffee tables, and end tables. The boys paid only for the materials they used. Many of these projects were seen on display in the school dur- in e ' i 'FX in kM I ?-.1-- l j A..-f Industrial Arts students show their skill in the woodworking depart- ment. 28 Q Mr. Daniel Shea displays the craft of one of his metaleworking students. Seniors Richard Crean and Glenn Townsend use the library to increase their vocabulary. LIBRARY The library at Beverly High School was a familiar sight to all students, particularly seniors! Mrs. Helen Willmott, the director, provided materials for reading assignments and research papers. The students enjoyed available books, magazines, and newspapers. During the year the library staff set up different exhibits. When thesis time arrived, seniors swarmed the library seeking information for history, English, and German. The library aides were an integral part of the library. They took at- tendance, made out slips for reserved books, and filed cards. Mrs. Willmott hoped to have more 9 books and library aides in the new high school. l.. ,4 'T w. 1 LIBRARY AIDES BOTTOM ROW: K. Goodrow, J. Sitrahl, R. Levy, C. Hartt, P. Gasperoni. TOP ROW: P.
