Foley headed the administra- tion department of Beverly High School, As principal of a high school with over fifteen hun- dred students, Mr. Foley was burdened with an unlimited amount of work. Therefore, this past year, the Beverly School Committee ap- pointed three men, Nlr. Harland Carter, Mr. George Taylor, and Mr. Thomas Donahue to assist him as housemasters. Mr. Donahue directed the first floor and cafe- teria supervision, iunior discipline, and the checking of iunior attendance. Mr. Carter super- vised the second floor, senior discipline, and the checking of senior attendance, while Mr. Taylor directed the third floor and supervised sophomore discipline and the checking of soph- omore attendance. Each housemaster was also guidance coun- selor for one-third of the sophomores, and his work was basically the same as that of principal of a small school with the exception that the ultimate responsibility was in the hands of Mr. Foley. The duties were delegated by Mr. Foley in specific areas chosen by him. ln the new high school, the housemasters will be responsible in their respective houses for scheduling, supervising in all phases, ob- serving teachers, and generally supervising guidance. As the plan develops, each house will consist of sophomores, iuniors, and seniors and will be almost a separate school within a school.
