IACUZIO FOREIGN LANGUAGE DEPARTMENT Courses offered in French, German, Spanish, and Latin in the Foreign Language Department at Beverly High School served to develop the student's ability to speak, understand, read and write a foreign language. Facilities of the department included a reading room and a language laboratory. The language reading room, located in a library conference room, contained foreign language reading material to aid students in their study of a foreign country, language and litera- ture. The language laboratory, helpful in preparing for College Boards, was used extensively by advanced students to improve their listening comprehension. L. l-lennessey is also a member of the language de- partment. BROOKS 5 MATHEMATICS Aiding students in their search for mathematical knowl- edge was the purpose of the Mathematics Department at ' 1 Beverly High School. The courses offered by the department 't' were algebra, geometry, general and advanced mathematics L. JAMESON D' LINDSAY and trigonometry. ln addition to regular classes, interested and skilled students, under the direction of the members of the department, participated in the Mathematics League which competed with other teams in the North Shore area. ' A fair was again held this year at which projects submitted l .. , , . . . . -if by students were iudged. MUSIC AND ART The music department, under the direction of Mr. Lawrence P. Drouin, encompasses not only students seriously preparing for a career in musicology, but those expressing an interest in the instrumental and choral groups for challenge and enioyment. The music program enables students to obtain an insight in music appreciation and theory, however, the main objective, expressed by Mr. Drouin is to succeed in communicating to his pupils the ultimate in musical enioyment. NN -4-5 x s FY E, BRIDGESS A 2 N : ,,..-if N .J F. LeBLANC The art department of Beverly High School was headed by two teachers, Miss Elsa Bridgess and Mr. Francis LeBlanc. Students were offered programs in jewelry craft, mechanical drawing, and commercial and general art. Exceptional work was often exhibited. All students were encouraged to develop an under- standing of the fundamentals of art and of their own capabilities. fp L. DROUIN Music rooms are always crowded with vocal enthusiasts.
