BROOKS 5 MATHEMATICS Aiding students in their search for mathematical knowl- edge was the purpose of the Mathematics Department at ' 1 Beverly High School. The courses offered by the department 't' were algebra, geometry, general and advanced mathematics L. JAMESON D' LINDSAY and trigonometry. ln addition to regular classes, interested and skilled students, under the direction of the members of the department, participated in the Mathematics League which competed with other teams in the North Shore area. A CHALLE GE FOR TCMCRROW -VF ri .., .L-muah-e In an effort to broaden their powers of observation, chemistry students, Observing B burning candle, attempt to uncover the 53 possible conclusions. SCIENCE DEPARTMENT The Science Department of B.H.S., continuing to grow with school enrollment, necessitated the formation of three new classes and the addition of a new chemistry teacher, Mrs. Karen Levin. The B.H.S. science curriculum offered courses in biology, 'physiology and physical science for the non-college student as well as biology, chemistry and physics for the college-bound student. The laboratories were again open to the classes and additional work and encouragement were avail- able for interested students. Extracurricular scien- tific activities included the Radiation Biology Club under Mr. Phillip Kendrick and the Physics Read- ing Club under Mr. Anton Kishon.

IACUZIO FOREIGN LANGUAGE DEPARTMENT Courses offered in French, German, Spanish, and Latin in the Foreign Language Department at Beverly High School served to develop the student's ability to speak, understand, read and write a foreign language. Facilities of the department included a reading room and a language laboratory. The language reading room, located in a library conference room, contained foreign language reading material to aid students in their study of a foreign country, language and litera- ture. The language laboratory, helpful in preparing for College Boards, was used extensively by advanced students to improve their listening comprehension. L. l-lennessey is also a member of the language de- partment.
