A CHALLE GE FDR THE MI D A D HANDS INDUSTRIAL ARTS To educate boys in shop proce- dure is the purpose of Industrial Arts, under the direction of Mr. Daniel Shea and Mr. Otto Winquist. Through information, observation, and a study of working conditions in the wood and metal shops, boys who had elected this course developed in- sights in and appreciations for indus- trial intelligence and understanding. The knowledge acquired of tools, machines, and correct methods of construction provided valuable train- ing for future vocational work. ln- spired and challenged to find satis- faction in making obiects with their hands, the boys constructed projects including bookshelves, end tables, and coffee tables. , ,. I.. D' SHEA with Mr. Daniel Shea as classroom advisor and he and Mr. Lawrence Steedman as on-the-road instructors. The NI aims of this extracurricular course were to equip students , f V 'i Vi.i'J?l':t' 1 , t with a fundamental knowledge of their car and a basic comprehension of the rules of the road. These goals were fulfilled through the extensive use of films, text books, pamphlets, and lectures. Upon completing thirty hours of classroom work and six hours of actual driving, par- ticipating students were eligible tor reduced insurance L. STEEDMAN rates. A brief respite from learning the mechanics ' of a motor car is granted to the driver edu- l cation class. I9
