TURLO BUSINESS EDUCATION DEPARTMENT The main purposes of the Business Depart- ment are to develop marketable skills which will enable students to earn a living, and to provide them with a background in general business understanding and concepts so that they will be well-informed 'consumers of goods and services. The courses included I6 bookkeeping, consumer education, economics and law, typing, shorthand, and secretarial and office practice, This year students used special dictation tapes to build higher speeds in shorthand, during the first semester, a television classroom program was part ot the economics and law classes.

COMPETITION CLILTI ATES CO-ORDI ATIO Windmills test the extent of a young man's physical endurance and ability. PHYSICAL EDUCATION DEPARTMENT Under the supervision of Miss Anne Farley and Mr. George Taylor, the Physical Education Depart- ment at Beverly High School emphasized physical fitness. National physical fitness tests, given in coniunction with the President's Physical Fitness Program, showed certain phases in which Beverly area students needed exercise. The department then concentrated on these phases to completely fulfill the requirements of the tests. Class activities such as sports, gymnastics, and dancing for the girls were supplemented by the Girls' Intramural Club, and interscholastic sports such as boys' and girls' basketball, football, hockey, cross country, and indoor and outdoor track. 4.1 Boys increase their physical stamina by practic ing various exercises, including situps. ti!
