The first part of the course was de- voted to learning the use of the ma- chines and learning about the theory behind the subject. After the members thoroughly understood the fundament- als and procedures, they performed experiments on plants. Such substances as radioactive iodine were used to study various elements about plant life and even plant mutations. O ' w ...J FOOTBALL This year, as in past, Beverly High had an excellent football team. The team, which was rated high at the start of the season, lived up to all expectations and pre- dictions by easily defeating several teams. Beverly was called one of the Hpowerhousesn of the North Shore. The team proved its ability by winning eight out of nine games. One loss was suffered in a close game with Brookline that ended 22-20. The team did, however, come in second in the State Class A Championships. The boys finished up the season by overcoming Salem 46-O, thus closing a very successful season. 4 12 970114 I a f f , I H A H N :NYJ if fl W t ,I '71-H' ,4 :',' f u fn 'V Q' . Both of these players were on the offensive and defensive starting line-ups and saw a lot of action during the nine-game schedule. Dave was the quarterback this season who led the team on to eight victories. Since he can run, kick, and pass expertly, he is always a big threat to the opposing team. On defense he was perfect, he broke up many pass patterns and intercepted several passes. Danny was the right guard on the offensive squad and the middle linebacker on the defensive unit He did a good job in both positions by blocking and tackling effectively. It was largely through the efforts of these boys that we had such a fine record ENDS and TACKLES: FIRST ROW: W. Chin, F. Foley, C. Overberg. SECOND ROW: P. Zeitzoff, B. Fumer- ola, D. Cucinelli, T. Teachers and parents were present to congratulate the graduates and wish them success and happiness for the future. Manuel's Black and White Orchestra provided the music as the graduates were led in the grand march by their class officers. The graduates sang the school song for the last time together and followed it by Auld Lang Synelw Parents and teachers congratulate the graduate Oh how we danced! s .r 7 b Y, r' , v f Mr. Leadbeater touched most of our lives in one way or another. However, most of us did not know of the many phases of his life. After graduation from Beverly High School as an honor student and from Tufts College as a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society, Bertram Leadbeater returned to Beverly High School to teach. Students knew him as an algebra and ad- vanced math teacher, guidance counselor, and head of the mathematics de- partment. lVlr. Leadbeater was the kind of teacher who made his subject com- prehensible and gave understanding to pupils who needed to be understood. In addition to his school activities, lVlr. Leadbeater had many outside interests. We all knew of his work in photography from the films shown at assemblies and from his presence at sporting events, making movies that captured the spirit of his students in competition. Some of us knew him through his church work, and many of the boys knew him as their scoutmaster. Most of us knew Mr. Leadbeater, and all who knew him loved and respected him for his example of a good, kind, and sincere person and for his intelligence and understanding in the classroom. We will never forget our friend, Mr. Lead- beater. sz-:T . . lx w-e--.Nr .,--....,,,.,,,-,, , v If J? 3 For Reference Not to be taken -P wg from this library P ! f f ' 15 e, if F QQ Xue.: -J 0 1 --:'Q'2-T ,el 5 ...:::1,e--'- - 4 , IJ? fi mx I 5 4 w Viv' A 75:9 4 4--fig e 'H ,ZQ Q jgiifmgee , .1 UUDU l El L e L 11 'rf' - X .v Xiffxjejii , XX:-wxofu, f'S.'- ,-, Y T C311-Q Q -N'-' -Ax gf' N, - X--' V YD
