Senior Class Officers History of Class of 1944 Hy NANCY HORD When our class entered the doors of Beverly High School that September morning in 1941. we felt that we were entering upon a new and exciting venture, but we little realized the good times, the hard work, and changes that were ahead of us. Wie numbered approximately 350 at the beginning of that year. Because many hav e left to join the services of our country or to take part in some useful war work, we have dwindled down to about 24-0. Wie have witnessed many changes around the school the past two years- in particular. the change of faces among the faculty. Our principal, llr. Pierce. stepped into the superintendent's position during llr. King's absence, and was succeeded by llr. Atkinson who came to us in September of 194-Q. He has proved himself to be a good friend and counselor to us. llanv teachers have left to be married: others have gone into all branches of the service. nie were sorry to see them go but were glad to welcome new friends into our midst. In order to prepare the boys for the armed services. new, special courses have been started emphasizing mathematics, aeronautics, radio, physics and gym. Also a Victory Corps has been installed. Blembers have been inducted into this organization at two very impressive ceremonies. During our Sophomore year we elected as officers: President, William llercaldil Vice President, Allen Elliott: Secretary, Nancy Hord: Treasurer, Polly Parker. The members of the Executive Committee were: Jane Howarth. chairman. Donald Carr, Wallace Bruce. The Student Service Committee consisted of: Phillip Carr, chairman, William Hoikala. Howard Keech, Vtilburta Bunker, and Frank Russo. 14
