At the foot or towering mountains Came the tribe imto the council. Slowly spoke their aging chieftain To the young men gathered round him, Tis a legend of our people He who climbs yon lofty summit, He will be the cliief among you. hrom the council sped the young men. And at lengtfi the nrst returning Bore a leaf unto tlie chieftain: But the chieftain answered slowly. Beauty lies at journey s ending. You had only climbed the foothills. Soon the second brave returning Proudly bore rich golden nuggets; But the chieftain sadly answered, Wealth lies not in shining substance. Not for you tiie councils honor. After days of weary climbing. Came the last brave to the council. Empty hands outstretched before him. Where I stood, O noble chieftain.
