GIRLS' BASKETBALL The 1959-'40 basketball season brought glory to the basketball girls and much sat- isfaction to many fans of our girls' team. This, the last year for girls' basketball in our county, was a year of com- plete victory for the team. Having lost no games, the team made a grand climax to all the teams which have gone before. The girls to whom so much recognition is due were as follows: forwards ---- Beatrice Henry, known as nsure shot Bea? who could use the one-handed nstuffn like nobody's business fthe coaches ballad her rhythm in motion on the floorl. She devoted her three first years of high school career to bask- etbal , Corrine Fravel, better known as uBlondien, was a sen- ior who had played all four years. Kathryn Katen Feterle was considered one of the most faithful members of the team. Jessie AlycerBoos, small but mighty, made a very worth- while addition to the team. Eleanor Harrison, a second year player this year, made great headway during this sea- son. Last but not least of our forwards was Ethel Mae lane bright who made quite a Hgood showing for her first year on the team. The guards, better named sentinels, were most success- ful in their ability to keep the nopposing forwards from coming through. Janet nTear Em Apartn Hartsel was on duty always. Many baskets for the other team were stopped by her wide-awakeness, Betty nSpeed- kingn hGoodman displayed a great deal of ability in cover- ing the floor swiftly. Sara Hup and at emu Marshall laid them down as fast as they got up. Sara, a senior, for all her small size, was a great aid to our team. Two new guards were Joyce Grimes and Pauline Steffanni. They both displayed good basketball qual- ities and sportsmanship. Betty Simpson, a very cape able player, was forced to drop out early in the season because of ill health. The annual invitation to participate in the Sandusky County 'tournament was again received. The opponent was Woodville which was unable to do more than tie our score. All in all the year was a most successful one, Much reo- ognition is due the ever faith- ful coaches, Miss Ayers and Miss Hurlburt.
