BOYS BASKETBALL The Bobcats of '59-'40 fought through-out the season to lose but only 5 games. In the first game of the season with Burgoon, the Bobcats couldn't pull away from Bur- goon, and so the game went in- to an over-time with Betts- ville losing out 51 to 50. Attica beat the Bobcats by 5 points. Republic won from the Bobcats by 6 points, and Thomp- son by 4 points. All.of their' losses were by close score. Bettsville met Bloomville in the first round of the Sen- eca County Basketball tourney at Old Fort and won by the score of 52 to 25. This first game gave the other team some- thing to worry about, and it became more pressing when the Bobcats came back in the sec- ond round to beat the favor- ites of the tournament CAtticd by an impressive score of 51 to 21. The next afternoon the Bobcats traveled again to Old Fort to beat the highly favor- ed opponent, Republic, by 'a score of 57 to 24. Then came the final game with the Bob- cats opposing Thompson. No- body had suspected the poss- ibility of Bettsville going anywhere against Attica or Re- public, but they won, earning the right to play in the 'fin- als and to go to Carey to play in the District Tourney: The Bobcats started with one reg- ular, Mick Sullivan, off the team. He was out because of a bad knees They had already played 2 games in the last 24 hours and still had the final game to play without rest. Thompson was their opponent in the game, and they were out to beat them. They led at the ond of the first quarter and through-out the first half of the second quarter, but from then on out it was too bad for Bettsville because Thompson went ahead and the tired Bob- cats could never catch up. Our team received a very nice trophy for runners-up. A couple of weeks later Thompson and the Bobcats traveled to Carey to represent Seneca County in the District Tourney.- Thompson was beaten in their first game with Tiff- in Calvert. Bettsville won their game from Rnwson 42 to 19, the most lopsided score in the tourna- ment. The Bobcats again felt that they might have the glory of going to Columbus. They met Carey in their next game, and to everybody's surprise, took the fancy looking Carey boys 29 to 245 However, from now on, it didn't work out any too well, for the Bobcats lost their game with Bluffton in the semi- finals, 26 to 51. Bluffton beat Tiffin Calvert in their next game to win the tourney. Bettsville played Bellville, a nice looking team, in the conL solation finals and was out- 29 to 20. Bettsville the runners-up trophy classed, received from the consolation tournad ment,and to be sure, it was very much worthwhile having. The Bobcats won 5 troph- ies for the new trophy case this year, thereby completing a most successful season.
