SOPHOMORE CLASS HISTORY The Sophomoresfthe Fresh- men who started high school with a bang! did not let the bang wear down any in the se- cond year. V The class elected Janet Hartsel, presidents Evelyn Puffenberger, vice president and treasurer, and Betty-Goode man, class reporter. Mr. Dur4 rett, who served as our sponsor when we were Freshmen was again voted sponsor in our Sophomore year. Our first get--together was held at Isabel Klopp's fin the form of a Halloween party held in the barn. Transport- ation was given by Mr. Klopp and his truck. Our Christmas party was held at Hoffman's. An ex- change of presents made every- one conscious of the Christmas spirit. Our last party was in the form of a Valentine party at the home of Eleanor Harris- One Much talent has been not- ed in the Sophomore Class., We have shown great promises of up-and-coming artists+ Wayne Naujoks proved to be a very diligent, basketball player. Earl Baker, John Ger- win, Robert Burd, and Willis Channels played on the re- serves. Janet Hartsel, Betty Gomr man, and Eleanor Harrison re- presented the Sophomore Class on the girls' basketball team. Musicians from our class were Ruthe Baker, Helen Bur- kett, Rita Kuhn, Isabel Klopp, Evelyn Puffenberger and Janet Hartsel. Those of us who were act- ive in dramatics were Janet Hartsel, Eleanor Harrison, Jeanne Hoffman, and Ruthe Baker who took part in the one act play. Wayne Naujoks, Robert Burd, Kenneth King took their stand in baseball! Janet Hartselj Evelyn Puffenberger, Isabel Kloppg Helen Burkett, and Rita Kuhn represented us in debate. Betty Myers was one of the twor cheerleaders again this yearg , Doris Swartz, Robert Burd and Evelyn Puffenberger were members of the Student Council! Helen Burkett represented Bettsville in the Instrumental Contest in the baritone and piano divisions. She received third rating in both divisions. Ruthe Baker entered the violin contest and was placed at the peak of the entries, She played in the District and State Contests. She :received second rating in both but un- fortunately didn't get to go to the Regional Contest. Isabel Klopp and Doris Swartz represented our school in the County Contest. Both received second ratings. Helen Burkett, Isabel Klopp, Doris Swartz, and Ruthe Baker were in the Ensemble which took a third rating in the State Contest at Oberlin. As is evident from this article, we have a very pro- mising Sophomore Classf It is our hope that when we enter high school again next year we may prove worthy of our past record and this nanw left to us by the new Seniors4
