SENIOR HISTORY It was four years ago that our graduating class of 1940 entered into the realm of its high school career. There were just eleven Freshmen to initiate that year. MThose members of the famous eleven were the nthree muskateersf Sara Marshall, Kathryn Feterle and wCorr1ne Fravel, better known as Shorty, Kate, and Blondie, respectively. We had eight Small but mighty lads with us: Karl Turner, Norman Fry, Arthur King, Robert An- drews, Junior Dicken, Stewart Nighswander, Richard Lynch and Ralph Lambright. We aimed to welcome new class members but few ever came. Our Sophomore class re- mained the same as it was in our Freshman year. Not giving up hope, we did gain another member in our Junior year. Francis Miller was the youth who joined us in our class and scholastic activities. This year the nthree muskateersn ceased to be when Alice Swartz became a member of our class. In three ,years Corrine Fravel was elected chief ex- ecutive with Arthur King hold- ing this high position for the Sophomore class. Ralph Lam- bright was chosen to head the banking system, and a very good banker he was, too. Sara Marshall, Stewart Nighswander and Kathryn Feterle CSenior Sec.D have all taken turns in jotting down minutes of the meetings and have acted as our corresponding secretaries. All of these were capable lead- ers. Mr. Ayers, Miss Alice White and Miss Helen Lee have all been the sincerest of ad- visors for our class. It seemed utterly impos- sible to expect anything from our class except that which would be entirely a farce. And so we carried this out in both our junior and senior play productions. nHis Uncle's Niecen, was presented in four Junior year, and such a hilar- ious comedy it was! HFlat Tiresn was set up on the stage in 1940. This, too, was one of the kind which makes you wipe away troubles for a time. Miss Hoffert and Miss Hhrlburt both successfully directed these plays with con- stant work on their part. On May 21 the Seniors were displayed in all their glory. A May Day was held on this festive day. Kathryn Fet- erle was elected May Queen and Sara, Alice and Corrine were her attendants, Karl, Ralph, and Francis served as their escorts, respectively. It was, indeed, a great day. In the way of outside act- ivities, our class was highly represented. Karl Turner, Ar- thur King, Francis Miller, Junior Dicken, and Robert An- drews, put their minds in the field of sports, leading in basketball. Many members en- tered the Glee Club. Some were in the debate field and dramatics. Practically all of the class was on the staff of the school paper or the annual. All in all, we were quite ac- tive along with our regular curriculum. Scholastic honors to be awarded this year were very difficult to bestow upon any- one because of the very close ranking of the highest. Robert Andrews was valedictorian and Corrine Fravel received the position of salutatorian. And so ended a very plea- sant school life at the com- mencement exercises on May 24. The Senior Class of 1940 regret that they are leaving this place in which they have spent so many happy hours.
