Savor the world vvhile you have it. This phrase reflects the moral created by the presentation of William Gibson's Dinny and the Witches on the eve- nings at October 22 and 23. Dinny Jones, portrayed by Scott Statne, rep- resented the average American young man, but believed he deserved nothing less than the best. The play began as his dream, but reality constantly intruded into it, his dream developed into a nightmare, and he became ci mortal under the sentence of death. Those who witnessed the performance could not avoid realizing that Dinny might have been any one ot them. The performers were excellent, especially enjoyable was Anne Koprucki, who portrayed a witch who turned angel . get .........--a-1. mi. 2, - ,v:yir,, Joke, Tome, Dick, and Harry enter with Amy's coffin Ilia. x m s AP! , 5 , SQQT E Q U E ,ilk it Q few se Q Q5Pf?f5i5 gil 0 M ill alt' song 01? 7 D040 f f., W -'K The Three Witches. Good, hard work and plenty of spirit helped the varsity to three wins against only one loss. The iunior varsity had three wins and no losses while the sophomores had a season record of two wins and only one loss. The sophomores also ran with the iunior varsity in the second meeting with Alleman and helped to gain the victory, There were two state meets this year and six boys who represented us there were: Jim Mumey, Stan Snodgrass, John Fields, Anson Metzger, Fred Hanson and Larry Lang. In the State-Cross-Country meet our team placed fifth and in the State Mile the team was eighth. A team comprised of Stan Snodgrass, Anson Metzger, John Fields and Jim Mumey combined to win medals for Bettendorf. We can well be proud of these boys and the team as a whole, and we can hopefully look forward to many more good years to come. CROSS CCL! TRY BIG Snodgrass Gets Ready for State. any-w-If . They aimed to make a good name for Themselves and be remembered as being origi- nal. President Rand Eastin especially stressed their concern for money and hoped to have a treasury of S150 by this spring. The Freshman donation box brought approximately S50 into their savings, and Rand's plans very definitely included at least two dances. Also, special committees were used this year instead ot a lot of class meetings. Gary Catherine Steven Terry Abramsohn Adam Adams Adams F , . . To my staff who worked hard this past year in helping to publish this i966 BEACON goes all the credit. The persons listed below gave their time-talents-and a tremendous amount of hard work to make this BEACON what it is. This is the largest book that BHS has published. I wish to express my sincere gratitude to them for making my iob as a novice editor much easier-and the product of our combined efforts most outstanding. Alice Aranda, Marlene Hammill and Janice Haville typed the copy. Mr. Nordquist and Chuck Hlavaty handled the photography from which we selected the best of the many hundreds of pictures. Nancy Adams, Diana Bright and Steve Maxwell handled most of the editorial planning. Linda Corry and Marti Levy handled the business matters. Mr. Don Posten and his advanced art students deserve a special thank you. Mr. Fred Stoeker and the American Yearbook Company who directed the printing of the book. Toi the many others who served in various capacities, my deepest thanks goes to each of you. Most of the work of the yearbook falls on the shoulders of the adviser who must guide the staff. Many evenings, vacations, and weekends were spent by Mr. Hayes and myself in planning, developing, and preparing this book. To the students and faculty of Bettendorf High School we offer our thanks for the co- operation you have shown us during the preparation of the BEACON. Here is your year- book-here is your year. 42 ,QMJQXQQK imG5oM,0R , RAAHJQX Mmwwwg 3,1 Qwiw-wixfw' .ww MDNo9i5SmSJffmm yy www Qmiiwwyswmwmw , www MW WXw Wvizfm A 3 Q,9,w.Q9,J .do WN- mga Lg,2pmMf9Q XS i,Q5,?QQQDi -Jamwx Q5'gQ.JQ'iQ2SfWfw?GQlE fw3,3Lfiw M OQWWNMM ' NWAUWQSTCQGQW WW WP U , Af WU ' my Jfifzgfwlg 'ff fAQW4ljjf2Wf4 M V5 XAMZQEQ Afwwf T AMWAQLM ,fawli mxvoiuu. VARSITY TRACK Best Team Ever The 1966 track team has been called the best team in B.H.S. history by Mr. Parsons, head coach. In ten meets the Bulldogs finished tirst in all but two. Among the Bulldog's maior victories were the Little Six Indoor, Lit- tle Six outdoor, and perhaps their biggest and best vic- tory, the Fort Madison Relays. Although not to be denied in the relays and other track events, the Bulldog's real strength was in the field events. With an all around squad effort it is impossible to single out members of the team tor special recognition. The team captains this year were Joe Maag and Steve Mek- shes. Many records were broken as the trackmen rolled over almost every opponent by a large score. This team has reached a pinnacle ot success which we can only hope that Bettendort High can continue.
