Besides selling popcorn, the boys grew corn and sold Christmas trees. Many awards were given to the boys. Ron Amhof won the DeKalb Award for outstand- ing scholarship and farming programs. Elmer Mess was awarded the Gold award in the state contest for his dairy farming program. Jim Ritter was named'the Chap- ter Star Farmer while Bruce Dexter re- ceived the Iowa Farmer degree at the state convention. The Judging Team won champ- ionship honors in the Junior Hog Grading Contest at the Mississippi Valley Spring Market Hog Show. Members of this team were Dallas Paustian, Wayne Schmidt, Harvey Klindt, and Ron .-Xmhof. Dallas also won the honor of Reserve Champion in Individual Competition in the same judging contest. To start the year's activities, the club held a party to initiate the new members. After the initiation, there was a slumber party for all the members. The Rose Still Grows Beyond the Wall, the theme, was carried out by decorations, and by a dietician, decorator, and home- maker, telling how It work carries over into the future. ln November, Emmy Lou Peters and Bruce Dexter were crown- ed King and Queen of the Harvest Ball.
