In Memoriam Mrs. Lucille Stevens X ,. iff1f .-f- 1 Q ' it . -e -' Mrs. Stevens and her two sisters were three of the five little girls attending the first class organized by Mary McLeod Bethune. This only personities her stringent belief in the importance of the pursuit of an education. There is a significant carryover as far as her belief in education is concerned in that her daughter became a teacher. Her daughter. Mrs. Dorothy Hogan is an instructor at Bethune-Cookman College. Mrs. Stevens was also a charter member of Stewart Memorial Methodist Church. She was very well known for her ecstatic collection of flowers. It is said that people from all over the city came to see her beautiful display of hydrangeas. Her flowers merely showed outwardly the aesthetic qualities that were to be found within Mrs. Stevens.
