SQUARE DANCING HOCKEY WOW thats the best descruptuon of the class of 56 un theur freshman year durung hockey season gaunung a record of 3 wuns and 1 loss Thus good record contunued un 1953 thus tume wuth 2 wuns and 1 loss Durung the 1953 hockey sportsday the honor team captured thurd place whuch was quute an honor for the gurls sunce they were from such a new hugh school Last year the class of 56 s hockey team broke even wuth Massapequa 1 1 but lost to Amutyvulle 1 0 Thus year all four teams dud faurly well The Senuors defeated Amutyvulle 1 0 but lost theur games to Farmungdale 20 Mepham 10 and Babylon 40 The Junuors also beat Amutyvulle 1 0 tued Mepham and Babylon both 1 1 and lost to Farmungdale 1 0 The Sophomores broke even wuth Farmungdale and Babylon 1 1 and defeated Amuty vlle 10 The Freshman playung only two games tued wuth Babylon 2 2 and lost to Amutyvulle 1 0 BASKETBALL Thus years basketball season brought success to the Senuor team as they brought home to Bethpage an UNDEFEATED team record The Junuors too dud well by breakung even wuth 2 losses and 2 vuctorues The sophomores and freshmen showed great sports manshup un theur losses but as for a successful season they dud not do too well The honor team placed fifth at thus tournament The clumax of thus event was a tue wuth Massapequa the arch ruval of all the Bethpage gurls teams The standung basketball record us SENIORS JUNIORS SOPHOMORES 0 FRESHMAN VOLLEYBALL Volleyball has been under the durectuon of Mrs Rosalue Hauswurth for the past four years The class of 56 as freshmen had a terrufic volleyball sea son The scores were Bethpage 36 Herrucks 31 Beth page 55 Amutyvulle 33 and Bethpage 53 Hucksvulle 16 Massapequa put a halt to theur undefeated sea son by stoppung them at 31 pounts and went on to gaun wuth a final score of 38 31 un theur favor In 1953 they managed a 2 out of 4 record After losung to Farmungdale 3126 and Levuttown 22 15 they gauned back theur confidence by defeat ung Amutyvulle un a very close game 32 28 When faced wuth Massapequa they were able to shatter that schools dreams of an undefeated season by defeatung them 38 23 At the volleyball sportsday un 1953 Bethpage captured thurd place by wunnung 3 out of 4 games Last year the team suffered through a bad year although they dud theur absolute best They were defeated by Lundenhurst 45 29 Mepham 28 11 Amutyvulle 42 17 and Farmungdale 31 20 Thus year all four class teams dud faurly well especually the Senuors They brought back to Beth page an even record of 2 wuns and 2 losses HORSEBACK RIDING The Rudung Club was organuzed un 1953 by Muss Pellegruno as an actuve part of the LIGA pount program although un Bethpage ut us not a competetuve sport as un other schools Sunce then each fall has proven very excutung for those who louned Despute experuence and helpful hunts now and then eleven un all had a sore but goyful fall' TUMBLING AND APPARATUS Tumblung and apparatus are non com Honor your partner honor your cor ner' These words are famuluar to everyone but even more so to those un the square dancun group durected by Mrs Hauswurth Square dancung has been a part of the Bethpage Hugh LIGA program for the four years of thus hugh school s exustence Square dancung had uts share un Sports Nught last year as the class of 57 dud an untrucate dance representung Novem ber un the MUSICAL CALENDER The barefoot gurl dancers wore swung skurts and peasant blouses whule those portrayung boys not only wore blue ueans and shurts but trued to balance oversuzed straw hats whule dancung MODERN DANCING Durung the fall for the past four years Mrs Hauswurth has durected modern dancung Although ut us not on a competetuve basus LIGA creduts are guven Modern dancung whuch us an unterpretatuon of a mood poem or song has had an actuve part un Gurls Sports Nught Two years ago a gurls group dud 'The Dance of the Old Mauds In the Sports Nught of last year modern dancung took the form of Dry Bones a dance routune done un costume by three gurls for the month of October un the MUSICAL CALENDER SOFTBALL Softball has been a part of e LIGA program of Bethpage sunce thus hugh school bega I us a sport that comes wuth the first sugn of clear warm weather The occasuonal scream homerun struke three may be heard as soon as balmy weather arruves Durung the actual games these crues were not heard too often but the teams dud faurly well last year even though they were sometumes short a player or two and had to borrow from another one of the class teams The honor team at Sportsday played four games The scores of these games were Massapequa 8 Bethpage Woodmere Bethpage Wantagh Bethpage Bethpage Southsude 124 petutuve sports un the sense that there are no meets wuth other schools LIGA creduts are guven and therefore they are competetuve be tween the blue and gold teams un Sports nught mg and apparatus uncludes mat work rungs ropes parallel bars and the horse These play a very actuve part un the competutuon be tween the blue and gold teams un Sports Nught There are group and unduvudual exhubutuons un whuch each gurl on the squad performs what she can do best wuth a group and at her best unduvudually ARCHERY Archery us also a sport that presents utself wuth the comung of robuns and clear blue skues Mrs Hauswurth and Muss Smuth have durected archery sunce ut became a part of the gurls athletuc program Last year the teams competed wuth other schools for the first tume As was to be expected when enterung competutuon for the first tume the teams dud not do too well but there appeared to be some promusung
