Page 20 Davenport, Hale Top Senior Averages Top scholastic honors in the Class of ‘59 go to the twelve seniors who have earned averages above 90 in their three and one-half years of high school. Sue Davenport, whose 93.85 average heads the list, will be Valedictorian. Sue is Editor of STAR and secretary of Honor Society. Her past scholastic achievements have included two awards for her performance in the Eastern Zone Latin Contest, and the Elmira Key, which is presented each year to the ee J outstanding junior girl. A member of the French conversation club, she played the Parisian role of Madame Elise in Our Hearts Were Young and Gay. Sue says, “I'd like to know more people better,’ and her interest in others is behind her ambition to be- come a psychiatric social worker after studying at Oberlin or the University of Rochester. Sue studied piano for seven years, and played in both her class’ talent shows. She lists reading, kniting, cooking, music, Freudian psy- chology, and religion among her in- terests, and a summer job with the Public Service Commission among her experiences. Of the purpose of edu- cation, Sue says, “The individuadl— everybody individually— should be challenged to make the most of all his personal resources.” 1959's Salutatorian will be Ed Hale, who came to BC from Fairport Central School near Rochester in his junior year, and has achieved an average of 92.81. Ed won third prize in the re- cent Times-Union American history con- test. A reporter for STAR, he master- minds the paper's profitable candy-sell- ing project, and acts as undercover man for the Potpourri column. He be- longs to Math Club, is a member of the Oriole advertising staff, and worked backstage at the Senior Play on the prop committee. Ed aims for the Uni- versity of Rochester, where he will concentrate his studies on math and chemistry. He calls BC the best of the many schools he’s attended.
