The Beth-Center National Forensic Club has been very successful this year. We have participated in speech tournaments, Student Congress, and spon- sored two speech contests at the Junior High School. The following students represented our school at the East Washington High School for the Washington County Contest: Humorous - Bobbie Smouse, Serious -Evelyn Nicholls, Original-Linda Hootman, Ex- temp - Evan Douple, Discussion - Judy Johnston Poetry - Helen Hardy, and Radio - Myra Edwards. At our semi-final contests these students par- ticipated: Dramatic - Lois lllar, Humorous-Van Wolfe, Extemp - Joy Hegedus, Mariaelena Radachy, and Wallace Christy, and Original - Linda Hootman. Joy Hegedus and Lois lllar qualified to go on to the finals at Norwin High School. We have high hopes for the Forensic for next year. I OFFICERS President Linda Hootman Vice-President Judy Hegedus Secretory Lois lllar Co-Ordinotor - Bobbie Smouse Sponsor Miss Pepper Pictured above are Helen Hardy, a sophomore, and Miss Pepper, Forensic coach. They are holding a trophy which was awarded to Helen for placing first place in the poetry division of the speech tournament held at California State Teachers College in Novem- ber. This was the first of many honors Helen won this year. She was entered in the Washington County Con- test in February and placed first in competition with five other students. This qualified her to enter the District Contest in March at Carnegie Tech and it was her first place in this contest which made her eligible for the State Contest. ln April the Pennsylvania State Music and Forensic Contest was held at the University of Pittsburgh, there were nine contestants in the poetry division. Helen had the honor of tieing for first place. This is o great honor for Helen and our school.
