TI-IE MINDS BEHIND TI-IE MUSIC! Prior to the school year of l958-l959, two of the finest bands in this area met to make our first public appearance in the Kennywood parade. Here we once again led the parade, the new Bethlehem-Center Senior High School Band, under the direction of Mr. Battaglini and as- sisted by Mr. Behr, was a huge success. The big day came. While other students were getting acquainted, the band, already familiar with one another, began preparation for the football season. A few of the half-time highlights were: He's Got the Whole World in His Hands, Patricia, and l2th Street Rag. Our band and our maiorettes, having performed with such proficiency during the fall, immediately began practicing for our first annual spring concert. Even while all this was happening, some of our band members were giving performances with other groups such as the All-County Band. Mr. Battaglini and three members, Annette Gaste, Lorraine Solak, and Charles Battaglini, journeyed to Baldwin High School to participate in the Western District Band Festival held at Blairsville. Later Charles Battaglini advanced to perform in the State Band Festival held at Blairs- ville. The most exciting part of our successful year was our concert, which was one of the finest ever given in this area. The concert, per- formed with expert skill, contained a variety of music to please every- one's taste. The presentation of the Morning, Noon and Night in Vienna Overture, The Lord's Prayer, Venus, and the stirring marches did much to prove this statement. To show our appreciation for the superior job Mr. Battaglini has been doing, we presented him with a pocket transistor radio. Mr. Behr, not being able to be with us due to an accident, received his gift by proxy. The band performed for baccalaureate, and the graduating seniors played two selections for commencement exercises. The band, having marched and played in numerous parades around here will continue to practice during the summer months to insure that its future performances will be as excellent as its past.
