FACULTY AND ADMINISTRATION A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL Graduation time for our boys and girls takes on a singular pattern. There is much to think about, but there can be no healthy lite through the recalling of mistakes, blunders, regrets, and failures. The past is a thing gone forever. lt is your duty and privilege to dedicate yourselves to the many tasks ahead. Your dreams of today, tomorrow, and of the coming years should be of better things, nobler resolves, greater achievements, and of loftier aspirations. Miss Rita M. Baker, secretary: and Mr. Frank Greskovich, principal of the high school. bmi x .K v . X? gig Q ah WM xx N N Q A F 1 lfilfq 37 3. We were the first class to elect Junior High cheerleaders, and of the six which we selected, two girls later became varsity cheerleaders. The only big activity of our freshman year was the Christmas assembly. We also attended the Freshman-Sophomore Party which is an annual affair held so that the freshmen may become better acquainted with the sophomores. Our sophomore year was marked by a great event, the receiving of class rings. At Thanksgiving we held the assembly which was entitled The Pilgrim's Story, and this time it was we who sponsored the Freshman- Sophomore Party. Our junior year was a busy one, everyone worked very hard to make enough money to sponsor the Junior Prom Our money-making projects included: selling candy and pop at basketball games, holding dances, selling necklaces, tie pins, and autograph books, and most important, pre- senting the Junior Class Play which was entitled The Little Dog Laughed and was directed by Miss Yvonne Crumrine. As we entered our senior year, our first activity was the production of the Senior Class Play, Lunatics at Large, directed by Mr, Nicholas Kutska, ln December we sponsored the annual Snow Ball. Music was provided by Johnny Voss and his orchestra. The auditorium was decorated with a large Christmas tree, a sleigh, and other Christmas ornaments. We took charge of the concession stand during football season, and our basketball team of this last year became the champions of Section XVIII. Our P.O.D. classes made two field trips during the month of Moy. Our first was to the First National Bank of Fredericktown. There we were each given one dollar with which to open a checking account, and after doing this, we wrote a check and withdrew the dollar. Our second trip was to Washington, Pennsylvania, where we attended o trial at the county court- house and visited the jail. Seniors were dismissed from classes on May l7, but we returned each morning thereafter to practice for Baccalaureate and Commencement. We held our Baccalaureate services on Sunday, May 26, in the high school auditorium. The next evening, May 27, we held our Commencement exer- cises at the athletic field where we departed from the usual type of com- mencement program in presenting a ceremony in which all the ninety-six graduating students participated, The program was centered about the history of the school, its past, its present, and its future. Contributions from the Class of l957 will be placed in the cornerstone of the new building when it is completed. We sold candy and potato chips at noon, sponsored dances after basket- ball games, sold candy and pop during the games, and presented our Junior Class Play, Down to Earth. Finally May arrived and we began intense preparation and planning for the prom. We decided upon the theme of an oriental garden for our decorations and the auditorium was transformed in three days into an exotic ballroom. Music was supplied by Angie Bates and his orchestra, and after the prom many of us attended the Post-Prom Party held at the Youth Center. We look forward to our senior year with eager anticipation of the activ- ities in which we shall participate but with a tinge of sorrow in realizing that it will record our last year as students of Bethlehem Joint High School. Dancing, an entertaining program, and the serving of refreshments made the evening a pleasurable one, Soon afterward the sophomore assembly program for Thanksgiving Day was presented. Various types of performances were given, and a special part of the program was devoted to a This ls Your Life sketch in honor of Mrs. Yvonne Crumrine Grey who has since left our school. With the new year came the ordering of class ringsg the sophomores were especially excited over this because they are the first class to order the new official standard school ring. During the first few days of each new school term, it a familiar sight to see the members of the school band alking toward the football field, They are on their way m practice their music and maneuvers for another football eason. The band is usually directed by Mr. Emiren Bat- iglini, but due to his illness, the band was directed by Mr. icholas Kutska. After football season Mr. Paul DiSalle lead our band 'itil Mr. Battaglini's return after Christmas vacation. Mr. iSalle is now music instructor for the elementary grades. The band marched in Hallowe'en parades in Millsboro 'id Fredericktown and won first prize in the Class B division t the Mitchell Day parade on April l at Waynesburg. We had several students representing our school in the urious bands in the state. Margy Wilhelm, French horn ayer, played with the All-County Band. Sarah McCloy and ichard Darney were chosen to play with the District Band at niontown. Richard also took part in the State Band, which erformed at Wilkinsburg. The climax of the year was the annual spring concert, 1d with a capacity crowd the band put on a fine show. ls our work over? Oh, no! Smodic, went on to win the Section i8 Championship. This was the first time since l93l that our team has won the championship at the end of regular league play. Beth Joint had a league record of lO wins and 2 losses. This was Mr. Smodic's second yeqr of coaching varsity basketball. The l956-57 season record is l6 wins and 6 losses. Our team was defeated by Snowden at Donora in a quarter- final W.P.l.A.L. league play-off game. This year's varsity team loses three seniors: Steve Smoggie, Mickey Scatena, and George Veselcich. Prospects for a successful season next year are very encouraging. Mr. Smodic will count heavily on the following: Joe Sosnak, Adam Popielarczyk, Darrell Day, Toby Simon, Natalie Cecchini, Steve Shargots, and Bill Eloshway. Others who are expected to help are: Douglas Woods, John Bartok, John Juracko, and Regis Fullem. We hope that Mr. Smodic and his boys will do as well or better next year.
