Mzzslc Neug The 1949 50 term was started off wzth a marchmg band from the muslc department Prac txce was held everyday ram or shme under the SUPCYVISIOH of Mr Glffen and Edward McFadden musxc drrector and drum major respectively The band contamed thirty boys and gzrls ln add1t1on to seven twzrlers and two flag bearers At each of the home football games the marchmg band took an actxve part at the half time These half time shows contaxned speclal novelty tunes preczsxon marchmg and formmg letters Stunts were put on by the Junxor twlrlers, who partlclpated m several games lmmedxately followmg the football season the concert band was organlzed, wh1ch contained thxrty eight boys and glrls under the supervzslon of Mr Glffen The band rehearsed three days a week On December 23rd the brass sectlon of the band played Chrxstmas carols for the Commumty Chrlstmas Program The annual dlstrxct solo and ensemble contest 15 bemg held at Dover thxs year Our rep resentatwes are Robert Mueller tuba solo Ranny Gzffen, cornet solo James Brannen Phyllls Greenwood Elame Mmder Dav1d McEndree drum ensemble Dale Kmg Robert Mueller Ben-yamm Heskett Ranny Glffen John Wood Juamta Hunt brass sextet The concert band 15 planmng to partxcxpate m the dlstrzct band contest on Aprxl l5th at Bella1re Wlth the dlrector, Mr Gzffen, the chorus partxcxpated ln the Community Chrnstrnas Program On November 13th the G1rls Ensemble and Boys Quartet sang several selectwns for the Farmers lnstztute at Hunter Those m the Glrls Ensemble are Vxvxan Horton, Phylhs Greenwood, Rhea Mae McBurney Shlrley Mechem, Shlrley Dunable Juamta Hunt, and Martha McBurney Dale Kmng, Paul Schafer Edward McFadden, and David McEndree are the members of the Boys Quartet Mary E Dougherty accompamed both groups as pxamst Bemg chosen by H1 Waters McWx1l1ams as one of the fxfteen best acts most likely to succeed, the Boys Quartet appeared at Tlltonsvllle, on February 26th, m the Talent and Baby Show The annual sprmg musxc concert was held on March 23rd an the grade school audxtorlum The fxrst part of the concert consmsted of the following songs by the hxgh school chorus Soldier, S 'dxer I Love to Whxstle Over the Raxnbow , and Mary Don t You Weep The second part was solos and musxc by the band Those playmg solos were Bob Mueller, tuba solo, and Ranny Gxffen, cornet solo both were accompanied by .Tuamta Hunt Other solos accompamed by the band were Janet Mechem, flute John Wood, trombone and Vivian Horton and Shxrley Dunable clarmet duet The drum ensemble played their contest selectxons and also a number accompanied by the band James Brannen acted as master of ceremonxes and James Glffen directed the musxc 27 xi . i Q ' 2 , : ' : .
