■ his spring marks the completion of twenty-nine years of faithful teaching for Miss Esther Sabel, professor of Religious Education. The many winning ways which make her so unforgetable to all with whom she comes in contact have warmed the hearts of Bethel students through her years of service on our campus. Her ability to cast aside irrelevant details and come to the heart of a problem has made her a favored counselor to young people here. Through her efficient manner, she commands the respect that makes others ready to follow her and to have confidence in her. It is easy for her to overcome the differences in education, age, and position and put herself in another's place. Her everpresent friendliness and sympathetic attitude inspire others to have confidence in themselves. The sincere interest which Miss Sabcl has shown to students has encouraged many to go on with renewed strength to countless avenues of service for the Lord. Many leaders possess some of these desirable qualities, but few possess the great array which make Miss Sabel a favorite with all of us. Because of this, and of all that she has done to make our school what it is, we dedicate this book to her in sincere appreciation.

t may be in the valley where countless dangers hide ' The words of this hymn of dedication no doubt passed the lips of Ralph Larson many times during his life. Little did anyone realize how dangerous those valleys of service would be in his life, for last fall our conference people were shocked with the news of his death on an Ethiopian mission field. After Ralph had given less than two years of sacrificial service, the Lord saw fit to end his earthly ministry. On November 13, 1951, while riding on his motorcycle to survey new fields, he was shot down by an Ethiopian man. It is hard to realize why it should be that this effective testimony should be so suddenly snatched away and yet we rest in the promise that someday we'll understand. Our Bethel campus was stunned at the news of Ralph's death because it was but a few short years ago that he was a student leader among us. His winning personality and fervent zeal for saving the lost was an inspiration to all who knew him. And yet, Ralph would not have us mourn his death, but rather have us pray and give to a greater extent than ever before. His most earnest plea would probably be, won't someone go and take my place to tell those who have never heard, the marvelous story of God's grace. Are we willing to answer this plea?
