Hopkins, Principal Dear Seniors: I trust these twelve years you have spent in the public schools have meant much to you as you have worked and toiled these years to reach this milestone in your life. I congratulate each one of you upon this accomplishment. I believe in the years to come you may understand more fully how important these years have been to you. The knowledge you have gained, the friends you have made, both with books and people, the joys you have shared will long be remembered. As you go into the world very soon to make your own way, may you ever remember that there are two main areas in everyone's life one must reckon with, first, how to make a living, and second, how to live a life. You choose a vocation to make a living. May you always remember as you Strive to make a living you should constantly endeavor to live a good life. Keep these poisons of the soul out of your lifes: Hatred, greed, selfishness, and bigotry, of which our world is so filled today. Now as you leave us, my Sincere good wishes to each of you. We had the fastest backfield in the con- ference. Ourteam scored more points on the Merritt Field than opposing scores combined. With determin- ation, initiative andhard work shown by the coachand squad, spectators were given much exciting and suspensful en- tertainment. Coach Earl Blalock discusses game strategy with co-captains, Jackie Merritt and Paul Bailey. 40 Speedy halfback Brady Holmes makes the key run that sets up Bethel Hill's lone touchdown in the 7-6 loss to Cobb. The Beta Club went all out in the detailed planning of the half time ceremonies which included the coronation of this year's queen, Miss Laverne Yarbrough. Miss Sandra Knott, the out-going queen of 1962, crowned her successor and acknow- ledged Mrs. Linda Duncan as Maid of Honor. After the game the festivities adjourned to the gymnasium where Queen Laverne reigned majestically over the fun and merrymaking that followed. The student body enjoyed the oppor- tunity to dance and to fraternize with their friends and class- mates. 56 Junior Representative Miss Esther Pool Freshman Representative Miss Dianne Jones Junior Representative Miss Becky Rogers Sophomore Representative Miss Joan Long 57 MISS WAT YA RBROV This moment will become a cherished memory in the years to come. The evening commenced with an appetizing Mexican style meal which preceded a quite amusing, as well as interesting, program in honor of the seniors and seniorettas. Since no evening is complete without dancing, everyone proceeded to the gymnasium for hours of dancing and tasty refreshments. As the last hour rolled around, it brought the close to a night long remembered. Couples left one by one; filled with good food, exhausted but happy and content! Glimpses of the Past Year There was an added treat during the B.H.H.S. football season this year. On the Thursday before the Helena game the student body gathered to watch the ''Hornets ’ burn in effigy and to cheer the Hilltoppers on to victory. : S- pee ROSE pes: eaee Bees SRE wee ORS gone Pees aeen Bee m iseie wee igeie ieae The first day of a new school year had ended. It marked the beginning of four exciting years for many, and the last for some. Beverly Phillips and Chris Mooney, the senior class mascots, led the half time parade of the Homecoming Court. They were just as proud of their pony cart as the girls were of their convertibles. The pony, how- ever, was a little leary of the whole affair. Lizzie Wilborne has done an out- standing jobasthis year's school re- porter. She has diligently collected and organized the BHHS news for the Bethel Hill section of the COURIER TIMES. Our hats are off to Lizzie for the outstanding job she has been doing. The Halloween Carnival was a suc- cessagainthis year. Allen Long and Brenda Oakley were chosen king and queen of the Halloween Carnival. About 6,000 penny votes were cast for these two. The annual week of the F.H.A, in- itiation brought unusual looking girls roaming around the school. One day the candidates wore their skirts and blouses wrong-side-out, and another day only half of their face was made- up. Friday afternoon they donned boy's pants, pajama tops, a high heel and a bed room slipper, to push an oniondown the gym floor. The girls whole-heartedly agree it was worth it to become a F.H.A.'er. The feeling of peace on earth good will toward men ran high through- out the school as the rooms and bulletin boards took on the cheery appearance of Christmas. There were many tense moments as the students anxiously awaited the holi- days. BCE coronene DE: During December, the seniors stayed in the library every spare moment preparing research papers for Miss Chambers. Topics ranged from Im- pressionism to civil rights, to rac- coons. The probing revealed many things, such as our teacher's nick name, ''Punk'’, With apprehensive assurance, we presented our master- pieces, knowing all would receive A's. All good things must come to an end'', sobackto circles and squares. The house lights were down, and the curtain was going up on the biggest farce of the Queen of Hearts dance in the history of the school. On the way to the dance Francis Kowalski climbeda telephone pole withhis car, and knocked out all the power in Beth- el Hill. Noone was seriously hurt, but the dance was in chaos. The Queen's court processed to flash lights as Mr. Bradsher conducted the intro- ductions over a megaphone. Cupid's aim was a little off that night, but Francis zeroed in on target perfectly. With Midterm exams near, groups gather for Rookgames, coffee, cookies, potatoe chips and perhaps a little study. The night the juniors decorated for the Junior-Senior will not be soon forgotten. Everyone turned out to cover the gym with crepe paper, and to help raise the old hacienda at one end of the building. The last person left at 1:30a.m. after assembling the balcony and checking out the lights. The class was a little groggy the next day, and they still had a day's work of last minute touches to complete. Every year the senior class publishes a graduation edition of the TOPPER- ETTE. The typewriting room is in shambles for a week as the sixth periodtyping class cuts stencils and pops in during their study hall to finish their section on time. i On days like this most of the students regret that they did not take econo- MICSes We are the seeds of the tenacious plant, and it is in our ripeness and our fullness of heart that we are given to the wind and are scattered DY, eee Kahlil Gibran La — me pps peyegtiy $2 gh oe fe A Emomerob1 ees Ways a) j Yeo mere ppv ve A VET f° 2P7E8 V4 eae ie DEB es BW?
