■■■■ r—f— rr DEDICATION Without their sacrifice and devotion we could not have succeeded. Therefore as an expression of our gratitude, we the Class of 1957, dedicate this yearbook to Margaret C Fisher and James F. Signed: Sandra Tussup, Chairman Richard Johnson John King Karen Boughton Edwin Gleason Eleanor McCoy 33 CLASS HISTORY FRESHMEN YEAR September '53, a month we could never forget; initiation, Freshmen reception and the fact that we were now a member of the High School. Officers were: President, Ann Stecker; Vice-President, Geraldine Fagan; Secretary, Sandra Tussup; and Treasurer, Grace McKay. Homeroom teachers were: Miss Carroll and Mr. Gentile. Miss Carroll was our efficient and understanding adviser. Our sole social activity was a barn dance. Soon, it was June and time for our exams and picnic at Danbury Town Park. SOPHOMORE YEAR Before we knew it our sophomore year had begun. Officers were: President, Richard Lamporte; Vice-President, James Coffey; Treasurer, Ruthanne Englund; Secretary, Barbara Angle. Homeroom teachers were Mr. O’Dea and Mrs. Blum. Our class adviser was Mr. Blum. The girls finally got their chance with a twirp dance being given. If you look around tonight you will see why it was such a great success. In June our picnic for the first time at Squantz Pond. Who could ever forget Mr. Blum playing his guitar and singing Medieval songs. JUNIOR YEAR Officers were: President, Joe Coppola; Vice-President, Lois Heckler; Secretary, Sandra Tussup; Treasurer, James Coffey. Mr. Blum and Mr. O'Dea were our homeroom teachers and advisers. Almost immediately we began planning for the minstrel, The Junior Jubilee, our first big production. It was a high success which we all enjoyed doing. And it was the first time our treasury showed a substantial balance. Our prom The Silver Moon which brought out the moonlight scene in February, even brought the moon down to our petite and attractive queen, Ann Stecker. We lost three popular members of the Faculty who had been with us all of our three years; Mr. Gentile, Mr. O'Dea and Mr. Schulster. June was really the month of picnics for us with two: the regular one at Squantz Pond and a special one for adviser Mr. O'Dea. SENIOR YEAR The long awaited year had arrived, with so much to do in so little time. At the heads of the class Jim Coffey, Janet Morgan, Betty Weber and Marie Plancon, President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer respectively filled the seats of honor. We were hosts at the Freshmen Reception and welcomed the biggest class ever to enter B.H.S. The Senior Dance was next on the calendar of events, although not a financial success, it was thoroughly enjoyed by all. The big event of 1956 was our play, Beauty and the Beef enacted by a star studded cast of amateur performers. It was a huge success and will be remembered by all for years to come. We observed the Christmas Season with a party and invited the Junior Class as our guests. The last half our Senior year so filled of activities; our Yearbook problems, head- aches for our editor Ann Stecker and co-editors, Lois Heckler and Joe Coppola, our finan- cial difficulties, our very successful prom, the pleasure of entertaining our families, and Senior dinner all leading up to—to-night and our first glimpse of Passing Thoughts” and tomorrow. Commencement. 34 PROPHECY TIME: DECEMBER 7, 1972 PLACE: PARK OLSON'S SPEED SHOP A Western Union boy just delivered a telegram which reads as follows: You are cordially invited to attend a class reunion for the Class of 1957 of the Bethel High School. It will take place on New Year’s Eve at my home in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Contact Arruda's Airlines immediately for reservations. Don't disappoint us! Robert Calvin Smith Exactly twenty-four days later at 9:00 o’clock, the crowds started to form around the large white mansion. Taxis were stopping and ladies with satins, silks, minks, ermines stepped out and hurried to fling their arms around a beloved school mate. Mr. and Mrs. Smith (Mrs. Smith, known to us as Marie Plancon had on a gold lame gown and a sable stole thrown across her shoulders) greeted everyone cordially and with much enthusiasm. It was so good to be here safe and sound, thanks to the careful piloting of Dick Johnson and to the great help and kindness of our attractive and charming air line stewardess, Sandra Tussup. The first to step across the threshold is James Coffey, who was always first at a party. Jim is president of Chock-Full-of-Nuts. Beside him is his glamorous wife, Lois Miller Coffey. She owns Adler Elevator Shoes. Jim’s and Lois’s best friends are with them, Richard and Ava Lampor.te. Richard has a most important job. He is the man from Sunset with a kid and thir- teen wives to support. We hear a loud throaty laugh and who else but Ruthanne Englund, the famous sidewalk artist of Greenwich Village, swishes through the door. There are so many people arriving all at once it is hard to keep up with them. Who is that distinguished looking gentleman with the mustache? As we look closer, No! But it is! Prime Minister John King and Lady King, all the way from England. John’s wife is none other than his high school sweetheart, Carmen Lindsay. As we make the rounds we see a crowd around Natalie Conklin, who recently was ap- pointed as Ambassador to Italy. Natalie is busy relating her experiences. The laughter in another part of the huge livingroom is caused by none other than John Bacevic. His exciting job is selling dehumidifiers in the Sahara Desert. 35 It seems all of a sudden the men have disappeared. They are in the den talking with Joe Coppola, big time faroah dealer of Las Vegas, explaining his art of cards to them. The party is splendid. Bob and Marie are the perfect hosts. Bet Jackman, the first woman chief of the Bethel Police, is doing beautifully keeping everything in order. Ernie Tilford and Wayne Bard, Parisan playboys, have quite a way with the women. They have danced with almost every lady here. Right now Ernie is dancing with Elaine Piskura, one of the famous Rockettes. Here to cover our big event is Rachel Grasso. Rachel has been writing fast and furiously ever since she arrived and her story will appear in the New York Times. Barbara Angle Brando, arm and arm with her favorite man Marlon (she always said that she would marry him), seems to have eyes for only one man. We think he kind of likes her too. She and El are gabbing as usual. Eleanor McCoy, wealthly oil heiress, is about to take her third husband next month. Mrs. Longhorn, that’s Evelyn Schlemmer, Texas’ first woman senator, just made her en- trance. She was delayed by a Presidential Conference. We have been admiring the new hairdos of Betty and Barbara Weber, the Toni Twins. They have a new hairdo everyday for television. This one is called the long butch. Carol Gereg, Mickey Mantle’s agent, is discussing his salary for this year. Listening to her every word is curvaceous Janet Jennings, Queen of this year’s Danbury Fair. She has also been on television as a model for bathing suits and evening gowns. Also interested in Mickey’s career is Lois Heckler, owner and restorer of Barnum and Bailey Circus. Gathered around the red leather bar in the den is Kenny Evans, whose name hit the sport section as the Gizmo Yo-Yo Champ of 1972, Ed Gleason, famed Connecticut auctioneer (could sell a beat up rug for a patch work quilt), Lawrence Lamond, famed baby food tycoon and Wayne Lathrop, your favorite door to door salesman for Stanley Home Prod- ucts. Let’s leave them for a while and go to the living-room once again. Joy Nash, who just flew home from a Concert Tour to sing at the Metropolitan Opera, is entertaining us. She will be followed by Janet Morgan, featured hillbilly singer seen on television’s Grand Ole Oprey. 36 After the entertainment there will be dinner, buffet style, in the huge dining room. Marta Sohayda, leading fashion model for Christian Dior, is about the only one not eating. Marta must watch her pencil slim figure. Richard Brock, world renowned ballet dancer, has the same problem. Linda Davenport, Miss Coca-Cola of 1972, is busily passing out her favorite drink. Another one of those figure watchers is Karen Boughton. She is the wife of old time sing- er Elvis Presley. The dinner is over and the dancing has begun. Gerry Fagan looks lovely in a dark green silk sheath. Gerry is better known as Sheena of the Jungle on C.B.S. T.V. Most of the women here tonight bought their clothes from the E. L. Shoppe, in Guata- mala, owned and run by our own Edith Lewin. She sells some of the most exclusive dresses in the world. We were talking to Olympic Champion Grace McKay. She was the only woman ever to win eight trophies all in one year. Ann Stecker, well-known nightclub entertainer of the Sands in Las Vegas, is now per- forming for us. While the men have their eyes peeled on her, we notice that the time is slipping away and it is almost the moment of departure. A few minutes have passed and the beloved schoolmates are expressing their mournful farewells. It is sad to see Eileen Clarkson, who owns a Hollywood ballet studio, crying as her famous husband Charles Van Doran, who won the total of $169,000 on the 21 program on T.V., tries to drag her to a waiting taxi. Dr. Joyce Newton, world famous plastic surgeon, who has made some of the most beau- tiful women in the world today, and Marvel Rae Foote, head N.B.C. news comentator, Andra Pearce, head of Princeton University and with her brand new Ph.D., Pat Pannozzo, disk jockey for a Rock and Roll, Calypso and Mambo television show, and Margaret Rapp, head of the Board of Trustees for U.S. Steel, are the last to leave. There seems to be someone missing. Oh yes. How could we forget! Cliff Griswold is in the African jungle teaching the Ubangis to play the drums. Well, as all good things must come to an end, so must this and we leave singing, Till We Meet Again.” 37 What would happen if: Barbara Angle ever lost her gift of gab?
