G.R.A.’s Start Modern Dance Group The Modern Dance Group was added to the Girl’s Recreational Association this year. This group, along with gymnastics, track, basketball and other sports, was open to any interested girls. The activities gave the girls a chance to receive exercise, and competition to test their skills and patience. Coming up fourth in the district City Competition, they anticipate going to State Com¬ petition next year. Instructors for G.R.A.’s are Mrs. Pope and Mrs. Wolfe. 29

Home Ec. Club Stresses Individual Management The Home Economics Club, formally known as Future Homemakers of America, attracted many girls enrolled in home ec. classes. The main pro¬ ject of the club was selling candy to raise money. As the name implies, the club stresses individ¬ ual management of the girls. Each class started a savings account with Mrs. Lane. They set up their own goals and upon reaching them, a trip was planned to visit New York City. Over seventy girls took the bus tour in April. They visited Man¬ hattan and Radio City, and explored the salesmen techniques while shopping in the stores. Mrs. Em¬ ily Lovett sponsored the club. k n§-? • j 28

Bethel Majorettes add Grace to Football Field Under the leadership of their captain, Theresa White, the Majorettes added much beauty and grace to the football games and at pep rallies. The eight girls spent long hours learning new routines and their prac¬ tice proved to be effective in the competition meets. They entered twirling contests both as a squad and individually and won a second place in the regional competition for the National Majorette Association. They also marched in the Appleblossom Festival Pa¬ rade in Winchester, Va. and in the Williamsburg Christmas Parade. Here at Bethel, they performed with batons, pom-poms, and fire batons and ushered for the band concerts. The sponsor this year was Mrs. Susan Portlock. 30
