The presi¬ dent of the club was Sharon White and sponsor was Mrs. Marion Palmer. F.T.A. Assist Teachers to Gain Experience The Future Teachers of America began the year with the observation of American Education Week, highlighted by an assembly with the Co- narc Band and a fund raising project with the tra¬ ditional sale of candied apples. Service projects included volunteer work at Sarah Hudgins and as¬ sisting teachers which also provided good training. In the Spring a trip was taken to the College of William and Mary in order to gain a better un¬ derstanding of college life. Home Ec. Club Stresses Individual Management The Home Economics Club, formally known as Future Homemakers of America, attracted many girls enrolled in home ec. classes. The main pro¬ ject of the club was selling candy to raise money. As the name implies, the club stresses individ¬ ual management of the girls. Each class started a savings account with Mrs. Lane. They set up their own goals and upon reaching them, a trip was planned to visit New York City. Over seventy girls took the bus tour in April. They visited Man¬ hattan and Radio City, and explored the salesmen techniques while shopping in the stores. Mrs. Em¬ ily Lovett sponsored the club. k n§-? • j 28
