French Embassy Visited Most of the activities of the French Club seemed to center around food. At the Christ¬ mas party, such authentic delicacies as onion soup, pastries, and escargot (snails) were sam¬ pled. The club decorated a car for the home¬ coming parade, participated in the Toys For Tots Drive and went caroling during Christmas vacation. The main goal of the club was a trip to the French Embassy and a French restaurant in Washington, D.C. This was accomplished af¬ ter many doughnut and bake sales. The sponsor this year was Mrs. Kathryn LeFevere and club president was Mike Kinney. 25

Newsreels Help in Country The German Club was active this year in promoting German culture within the club it¬ self. At the beginning of the year, a dinner was served in the home ec. room and consisted of bratwurst (hot dogs), apfelkuchen (apple strut- tie), and krtopfelsalat (potato salad). Each month, there was a Continental Breakfast held and in June, there was a picnic held at Newport News City Park. Newsreels, ordered from Ger¬ many about the country provided interesting entertainment for several meetings. Rosemary Tirrinanzi was president and Mr. Joseph Spitzer was sponsor. See Spot . . . Health Club Buys Clinic a Wheelchair The Cadeusas Health Career’s Club at B.H.S. was established last year but has already started a long term service project for the school. As a Christmas project the club sold bows made by the Sarah Bonwell Hudgins Center and gave the teen¬ agers a party. With the profits off the bows a stretcher wheelchair was bought for the clinic. The club heard from representatives of the American Red Cross, Thomas Nelson’s Associate Degree Nursing Program, Riverside Hospital, and an Army Recruiter. A trip was taken to Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, D.C. where nursing and other careers were viewed. Mrs. Jeanne Brad¬ ley, school nurse was sponsor and Rose-Marie Webster was president. 26
