Debate Team Rates Fourth in District The Debate Team, as their name implies, par¬ ticipates in debates on the district and state level. Though they are just a novice team, they placed fourth in the district. They attended a workshop on debating in the early Fall, held at Pembroke High School. The affirmative and negative teams have participated in invitational meets at York High, Warwick High and the University of Rich¬ mond where the affirmative speakers received an “Outstanding Honorable Mention.” The team was under the direction of Mrs. Margaret Todd. Forensics Improves Speaking Ability The Forensics Team is not really a club, but rather an activity which attracts any students in¬ terested in public speaking. During the year they participated in the Spelling and Poetry categories of the District Meet in March and also in the American Legion Contest and the Voice of De¬ mocracy. Though they had no student to place, the experience helped them to obtain their main objective of improving speaking ability. Team sponsor was Mrs. Margaret Todd and Helen Benet was elected as president. 22
