Don Ladwig was elected President to lead the class through their first year. Other class officers and a steering committee were chosen to bring ideas from the other members of the class. The 1967 Pigskin PowWow was soon on its way, with the frosh class beginning to make plans for their skit. Homecoming attendant chosen was Toni Harkness. The next major project for the frosh class was the dance that they sponsored, with a theme of Winter Daze, which turned out very well. The sophomore year was the next step down the long road at Bethel. An all girl cabinet was chosen to represent the class, with Becky Shinkle as President. Mr., Glenn Wiese and Mr. Ronald Warren served as the advisors, to guide our class throughout the year. Organization got under way with the task of arranging a class skit for the 1968 PowWow. Representing the class was attend- ant, Donna Haley. Planning for the Tolo was the big event of the year. March 7, 1969, the long a- waited evening finally arrived. Decorations carried out the theme, Barefoot in the Park , with the City Zoo providing the music for the evening. Skip Thiel and Leah Milroy were crowned King and Queen and reigned over the event. The sophomore year came to an end with the election of officers for the upcoming junior year. Elected to the office of President for the junior year, was Jack Michel. Mr. Glenn Wiese was head advisor with Mr..Ken Calhoun and Mrs. Mary Lou Griffin helping along. Starting the year off was again the 'planning and the preparation of a skit for the PowWow. The spirited class received first place in class competition with the skit Shake Well Before Using . Debbi Timm reigned as junior attendant in the annual homecoming events, Money making projects to financt the Junior Prom were held throughout the year, with the selling of pep pins and various car washes. Many bakesales were also held to keep the treasury full to the brim. With the coming of the spring of 1970, the Prom was held. On April 17, the hard work and careful preparation was culminated. The theme Refelctions of Lime , with the ' Fragile Lime entertaining provided a most memor- evening. Jack Michel and Donna Haley reigned over the dance. V Now, nearing the end of their long road at Bethel, the class of '71 reached their senior year. as President was Brad Topping. A steering committee again was chosen to bring in outside . Advisors were Mrs. Mary Lou Griffin, Mr. Ken Calhoun, and Mr. Walter Sahli who aid- class through the year. The PowWow was once more the first big event of the year, with the skit Valley of the Braves, winning a second place in class competition. Judy Stafford was chos- sen to represent the class and was crowned 1970 Homecoming Queen. The last and most import- ant formal dance for the class was now nearing. November 25, 1970 was the date set for the an- nual Senior Ball. Couples dined and danced at the elegant SeaTac Motor Inn, to the music provid- ed by the Springfield Rifle and Accopalco Gold. The highlight of the evening was the crowning of the King and Queen, Brad Topping and Toni Harkness. The memorable and magic evening came to an end at midnight. The class of '71 has now reached the end of four long, but memorable years at Bethel. For some, it seemed to end all too fast, but for others, it was only the waiting and anti- cipation for the new life that lay ahead. On the eve of June 7, 1971, the final day approached. A perfect-white diploma was held in the hands of the seniors. To most of them it meant a new be- ginning and a new road that they will now lead, SOMEWHERE, SOMETIME . . . Beauty, rough football players, comedy, and suspense all played a part in creating the atmosphere which enveloped the 17th annual Pigskin Pow- Wow, held Thursday, October 22nd, in the gym. Decorations, by Pep Club added to the evening that was very much enjoyed by everyone. Judy Stafford was crowned queen by Coach Tingstad and reigned over the festivities. Her court included Junior Attendant, Judy Cooper, Sophomore Attendant, Leann Overwayp and Freshman Attendant, Debbie Vollbrecht. Before Queen Judy announced the winners, the tense air was filled with suspense. For the second time in their history at Bethel, the Juniors Iclass of '72I again won the coveted over-all trophy and placed first in the class divi- sion, with the skit, Who's Afraid of the Big Red Ed, Seniors rated second place in the class division, with Valley of the Braves. Mission: Ridicu- lous, Art Club's skit, placed first in the club division, and G.A.A. placed second with their skit, Three Cheers for the Braves. Friday afternoon the first Homecoming pep assembly was held. Key Club put on a skit, and Sophomores won the pep point for creating the most noise. Friday evening finally arrived. The Bravettes and Kathy Kleinsaucer did routines accompanied by the band. Royalty rode around the track in convertibles driven by members of Key Club. The one damper on the Home- coming activities was the loss to White River, 21-14. Climaxing the busy, fun-filled week was the Homecoming dance spon- sored by Pep Club. Students and alumni danced to the music provided by the Renaissance Fair. The Braves showed determination during the Homecoming game. 146 wg? Couples, tensed and excited with anticipation, quickly relaxed to enjoy the certain air of romance mystery, and enchantment which was ever so present at the 1970 Senior Ball, held on November 25th. Seniors went all out to make their ball the best ever. The theme, We've Only Just Begun, chosen by the Senior class, complemented the music, dinner, and setting, which all added to the importance of the majestical evening. Having two excellent bands, Acapulco Gold and Springfield Rifle , was one of the outstanding features of the ball. At the peak of the evening, the royalty was introduced, with Brad Topping and Toni Harkness being crowned King and Queen, making the ball a truly regal event. The luxury of the Sea-Tac Motor Inn, with its glass elevators, chandeliers, and balconies with hang- ing plants, made this, the last formal dance for the Senior Class, a treasured memory forever. MS ,FM NPT , I just know somebody up there doesn't like me! DISCUVERY l can't really think of words to express myself. A- mong mixed emotions of tears, laughter, anger, ten- sion, etc. comes the feeling of satisfaction of knowing you have put together an annual. To some it is sad to discover that their high school days are over but to others it is a summer and a new way of life ahead of them. Underclassmen live for the summer - three months of vacation and dread that never-failing Sept- ember when routine starts again. The world is forever new and changing with people trying to discover who they are and what life is all about. A special thanks to Cathy Claunch for designing this year's BETHELONIAN cover. A very special thanks to lVlr. C.J. Knaggs, who happened to be a- round whenever his assistance was needed. Where do Ijqt in the changing patterns ofour times? Something in me knows what I want, where I'rn going - - but where? Until I-find out - - Isearchf' Anonymous To everyone who had anything to do with making this 1971 BETHELONIAN - - THANK YOU!
