X V Robert Nlinnitti, Earl XX . Platt A all re--q..,.,,.. Mrs. Lorraine Huston, Horner T. Anderson, Francis Olson To The Seniors of 53 Dear Friends: What you are taking with you as you leave the portals of Bethel High depends on what you believe about education. Education has two main purposes: UQ To perpetuate our Culture. QQ To progress to a process of growing and developing. lt is the latter we are primarily concerned with today. It concerns not only what we do in school but in the home and community as well. Your new high school is a shining example of community spirit to take you in and provide its very best for you. If you in turn have made the best of the opportunities provided you, outside of school as well as within, then you should be in position to enjoy all the fine things of our democracy with no fear to face the future. They ad' justed themselves to the responsibilities of upperclassmen with little trouhle and settled down to the year's activities with the help of Robert Minnitti and Irene Reed, class advisers. First was the election of class officers, Gary Allison was elected to hold the reigns with Danny Morris assisting in the capacity of vicefpresident, janet George was called upon to handle the records and Charles Brandfas had to keep the financial hooks straight. All five varsity yell leaders were juniozs Yell Queen, joyce Loveland: Dutchesses. joan and joyce Edwardsg and Dukes, Dan' ny Moris and Bob McDonald. To raise money the class made and sold pom poms to the Bethel Braves' supporters. The first big event of the year was Rest Assured, the junior Class play, given April 24. The mystery comedy portrayed a dream of Mr. Morlock, Gordon Hagen, in which Luige, Charles Brandfas, comes b2-IC!-I from the dead to get Mr. Morloclfs perrnis' sion for joe Linconi, Luige's son, played hy Gary Allison, to marry Mary Morlock, Eve' lyn Hansch. daughter of rich Mr. Mor- lock. In the dream Mr. Morloek dies and refuses to accompany Lucifer. Gary Ander' son, down helow, until he has prevented joe's and Mary's wedding. Mr, Morlockl family seems happier after his death and in due course of time and events Mr. Mor' lock repents. All is well that ends wellfi they say. The cast gave three performances and much of the profit is to go into tennis courts at the high school. The play was directed hy Rohert Min' nitti and assisted hy Mrs. Margaret Nistad, junior Class Officers. Row 1: Ylrginia Reard.m Evelyn Hmiicli. l5ei'ev'ly Hague. LU NCHROOM STAFF This year the Small Business Training Class has done an excellent job under the supervision of Miss Dorathy Kapphahn. Mrs. Larson also supervised while filling her post as head cook. The class planned the menus under the old adage variety is the spice of life. But, of course, they had to budget and here they observed a penny saved is a penny earned. Then they prepared the food, often a day ahead of time just as old Ben once said. never put otl until tomorrow what can be done today, Once prepared it had to be served, attractively please. after all, it has to look good enough to eat. And then came cleaning up time. They all knew where not to be at the right time. Seriously, though, Miss Kapphahn, Mrs. Larson and the class did a swell job. LIBRARY STAFF T W The library staff, instructed by Miss Anna johnson, not only checked books and magazines out to students in study hall: they also unpacked, listed and shelved books in the library, typed and Hled cards, cleaned shelves and rearranged books. It was one of their jobs to cheek out text books and arrange shelves in the book room. Along with these duties the staff arranged displays pertaining to various dates and seasons of the year which were shown in the library. Row lx Nl. Larson. E. Hunstli. R, Keecli, S. Totten. S. DANCEBAND Gi w A new idea that really caught hold this year was the g Bethel dance band. lts formation gave some of those students 4 6 I X who were more interested in popular music a chance to learn xg the ropes of dance hand work nrstfhand. The practical ex' 'X pericnce gained through playing for several dances. plus the fun involved indicated that this little group was here to stay. BAND This school year of 195253 was one of real progress for the Bethel Band. For the first time since consolidation the group had the feeling of being The Bethel High Band. And that feeling paid off! Rehearsing the entire band together, having the fine facilities of our new building, feeling the satisfacf tion that goes with progressff-these things started the band on its new road. Under the leadership of Robert Gregory, the band's thirtyftwo members furnished the music for many activities. It played at all home basketball and football games, at the dedication ceremony of the new building, performed at assemblies Cincluding an exhange assembly with Yelmj, and participated in several evening programs including its annual Christmas program and Spring Concert. The band mem' bers were especially proud of the job they did at the Pierce County Class B Band Festival- -a big step forward! Speaking of being proud, we musn't forget the new uniforms! Most of the largc purchase price was raised by thc wonderful efforts of the High School l'.fT.A., and the rest by the band itself. The final result was the fineflooking set of crimson, grey, and white uniforms seen in the picture. Row l: B. Kuper, Sully' Nixon, D. Ttlvlnltv, V. Ilvartlmi. D. Nielsen, U. Wallace. Row 3: D.
