While we may never I FACTS ABOUT YOUR SCHOOL S HISTORY Bethel Hlgh School started on a two year basls 1n 1911 In 1913 the f1rst class was graduated There were two graduates Ralph Sotzmg and Delas Keener Sotzlng 1S a bakery executlve ln the Clty of Bethlehem and Keener 1S a m1n1ster 1n the Reformed Church at Schuylklll Haven The f1rst pr1nc1pa1 of the school was Warren Beldler Inc1dentally he also taught all the subjects The other Supervlsmg Prlnclpals of the school and there terms of offlce were as follows Beldler 1911 to 1919 Edgar Strlcker 1919 to 1924 Earl Bordner 1924 to 1928 Lester Royer 1928 to 1931 Stoudt 1934 to 1943 The present Supervlslng Pr1nc1pa1 Harry E Eblmg was elected ln 1943 In 1923 the hlgh school was changed to 4 year program In 1929 the elec torate of Bethel Townshlp approveda bond lssue of 56 500 Dollars for the erect1on of a consol1dated elementary and hlgh school bu1ld1ng The f1rst bond ISSUE 1n 1928 was defeated by the electorate The erect1on of the school closed 12 one room bulldlngs and the Bethel School 1n the town of Bethel The old Bethel School Bu1ld1ng 1S at present used as the commumty f1re hall The follow1ng are the schools that were closed by con sol1dat1on M1ller's School Snyder's School Huber's School Shott's School Sunnyslde School Rollman's School Emer1ch's School Monroe Valley School Merkey's School Bens1ng's School Haas' Grammar School Frystown Pr1mary School and the Bethel School I Harry P. Landis -- 1931 to 1933, H.H. Good -- 1933 to 1934, Dr. Eugene F. CLASS HISTORY In September 1942 a handful of gleamlng youngsters faced the1r teacher Mrs Dorothy Manbeck as a healthy and nolsy group of flrst graders Our elc mentary years saw the endlng of World War II and the beglnrung of cold War III We arrlved on the h1gh school scenes durlng September of 1950 wlth Mr Saphore and Mr Koenlg as our class advlsors Joe Olesh was our class presldent that year That year travel1ng from rooms 9 to 11 kept us pretty busy We can st1ll remember the algebra classes under Mr Deysher and Mrs Snyder's pre sentat1on of The Lady of the Lake wlth the flner polnts We rushed lnto our sophomore year w1th a feellng of mental agony and phy slcal torture Is lt any wonder? Conslder the offlcers we had' Joe Olesh Pres ldent Rlchard Kllne Vlce Presldent Grace Elsenhower Secretary and Treasurer Esther Frantz We remember our sophomore year because lt was so eventful conslderlng the many trlps we took around the class room p1ck1ng up refuse There were many freaklsh occurances of nature such as popslcle stlcks growlng 1n flower pots By the tlme the popslcle stlcks were 1n full bloom we entered Mr Koenlgs mathematlcal paradlse Our Junlor year was hlgh llghted by that rlproarlng rootlng shootlng cowboy physlcs teacher Mr Relmer who drew a slx gun and blasted away at the ce111ng Knot knowlng the gun was loadedl 'I Goofed September 8 1953 reallzlng that we had reached manhood's greatest es tate semor year the blg wheels complete w1th the many lesser spokes rolled 1nto room 14 Nerve pllls were ID order for Mrs Clements as our Talented Theater Group dlsplayed the genteel furnlshlngs of the modern female through the physlcal contortlons of Messers Wolfe Bashore Olesh and Selverlmg Nerve pllls were also requlred to calm he1 Jangled nerves caused by those hectlc plng pong tournaments After these Jousts w1th tables cha1rs and balls our capable lnstructoress stated The bell has rung chlldren It seems she always had to persuade us to leave our beloved home room Now that the sunset of our hlgh school career has become a reallzatlon we can't help but thlnk of the many happy days we've spent 1n these cheerful halls May the memor1es that have endeared us to the school ever be a gutdlng force to those that follow us 1 f 1 . .
