meobcafion To this Bethel High School, which will never after this year graduate a senior class, we lovingly dedicate this Beacon. The memories of our days here will ree main with us all our lives. We will always be grateful to you, Bethel, for the lessons in living that you have taught us. Since the time you first graduated a class you have sheltered and watched over many, many classes giving them all objectives with which to face life. From a small beginning you have grown into a large institution, many additions have been made to you, you have survived fire, storm, and time. Twenty years ago your graduating class contained nineteen, this lune We stand one hundred strong. Mr. Buck, our supervising principal, has said The only certain thing in this changing world is that there will be change. So it is with you and though we are nostalgic, we are proud of you and your achievement, for you have proved equal to the task of chang- ing. Now we are graduating, and because we are the last, we hope that you may especially remember us. We, of the Class of l953, love you Bethel, and we hope that you will stand forever atop the sumrnit's brow, giving to countless students of the future the priceless things which you have given us!

This school is owned by the people themselves, but it is operated by the administration-1-Mr. Hartlieb and Mr. Buck. Mr. T. M. Buck, the supervising principal, who has given his capable services for twenty- three years, sends this message: Seniorsel hope you have not reached your goal with graduation from high schoole that you are determined to go forward and to use all that you have learned here as a tool to gain more learning. Only a few may go on to college, but everyone may have a desire to know more and to have more skills. That de- sire can be met in many ways to push your hori- zon farther and to grow bigger and better. The Time and Energy of Youth are Yours- use them. Mr. Hartlieb, principal of the high school, has been at Bethel since 1939. He served as a first lieutenant during World War ll. Before becoming principal, Mr. Hartlieb taught Ameri- can History and P. Q. D. l-le became principal in 1949 and has served in this position ever since.
