Class History The closing of another school term rolls around and presents for gradua- tion another class from Bethel High School, which contains thirteen members, These thirteen Seniors came from various grade schools in the surrounding territory, On a Monday morning early in the month of September, l948,twelve of these boys and girls entered the halls of learning in old B, H, S, Three of these twelve, namely: Shirley Forman, Dean Thrasher, and Norman Schnaufer, hailed from the Bethel Grade School, Coming from the Garrison School, were: Mary Jo Hawkins, Alma Jo Smoot, Bonnie Smoot, and Gladys Hawkins, The Brick School sent Nadean Spencer and Donald Shouse. From the Whitelock School came Mary Daugherty and Roy Lee Fuqua, Charles Stokes came by way of the Haman School, During their Freshman year the class learned to feel right at home here in the Bethel School and to take part in various school activities, After a summer's vacation, all came back to enter the Sophomore class, One new member, Dale Perrine, was gained, only to be lost at the end of the first half of the school term, During the second year of high school life, several of the members went out for basketball, baseball, and other sports, A few of them also assisted the upperclassmen in presenting the Senior play, Another summer passed, all came back as Juniors, This year called for much hard work and studying, The annual school carnival was sponsored by the class, The Junior play entitled, Air Castles, was presented, The Junior-Senior trip to Jefferson City and the Ozarks was planned and sponsored, The class was divided as to subjects chosen this year, A thirteenth classmate was added during the Junior year, Maurice Tonnies, who came from the LaBelle School, joined our group, September, 1951 all thirteen Juniors of 1950-'51 were promoted to the Senior status, This year various members of the class took prominent posi- tions on the basketball squads and other athletic teams, This spring, the class sponsored the Senior play, They were guests of the Junior class on the Junior- Senior trip to St, Louis, The class attended Senior Day at Kirksville State Teachers College, Now you see all thirteen here before you, the class says good-bye to a grand and glorious high school life here in the Bethel High School, We are now ready to step out into our future life, what it will be, we do not know, but we feel prepared to meet it, come what may, Written by Norman Schnaufer l2

Class Will ,F We, the members of the Senior class of Bethel High School, County of Shelby, State of Missouri, being of sound mind and of exceedingly strong will, do on this day of our Lord, May 9th, 1951, make the following bequeathal of our property: To Mr, Bauerrichter, our sponsor and Superintendent, we leave our forgetful minds and scattered brains, we hope they will come in handy next year, To Miss Harris, we leave a supply of tables, typewriter covers and plenty of patience with the typists, To Mrs, Logan, our English teacher, we bequeath many years of happy married life and a supply of gum for all of her English classes, To Mr, Selig, we leave a volume of written advice on how to make the boys' ball team behave, Shirley Forman and Mary Daugherty will Barbara Wiseman and Mary White the far end of the south hall in which to eat their lunch and talk over the fun they have been having, as they did during their four years in B, H, S, Alma Jo Smoot and Bonnie Smoot wish to leave their ability of getting along as well as they did, without too many spats, to Margaret Pickett and Dorothy Housman, Mary Jo Hawkins, Nadean Spencer, and Gladys Hawkins leave their water guns, paper wads, rubber bands and all other little things toonurnerous to mention to the lower classmen for the best of enjoyment, Charles Stokes, sorrowfully and relugtantly leaves his old B, H, S, sweetheart to his little friend, Johnny Jones, that is if Johnny promises to return her after she completes her Senior year, Norman Schnaufer leaves his mischievousness and unworn books to Gerald Mersman and hopes that Gerald can get by during his Senior year with- out too much hard work, Maurice Gene Tonnies leaves his ability to get along with the girls to Johnny Hawkins, He knows Johnny will never have a dull moment, Roy Lee Fuqua leaves his place on the basketball court to Frankie Baker, Frankie is not to neglect his studies, Donald Shouse and Dean Thrasher leave their quiet and sneaking ways to Donald Forman and Jim Morrison, To the Senior class members we leave the following: To Mary Daugherty, we bequeath one pair of stilts in order to make her appear taller, To Shirley Forman, who is known for her so-called giggling, we bequeath one bottle of laughing gas, which is guaranteed to tone her giggles down to a chuckle, To Mary Jo Hawkins, one of the best Senior students we bequeath one state teachers training certificate, We hope that she ranks as the best teacher in the state of Missouri, To Roy Lee Fuqua, whose only ambition is to go West, we bequeath one bottle of magic gasoline, To Norman Schnaufer, who having driven back and forth to school during his Senior year wore out two cars, we bequeath one C, B, and Q, train, 13
