Of course, all of your little day by day occurrences couldn't be enshrined here--the successes and fail- ures, the ups and downs, the sunny days and the gloomy days--these have all become a part of you. Now, as you proceed to look through the pages of our annual we hope that those cherished and beloved memories of your school days wi II be renewed. We, the Staff, want to thank the students, the faculty, and all those who participated in the compiling of our annual. And we especially want to thank Mr. Jay Smith for the time spent and guidance given to make our iob easier and our staff more efficient. 1 . 222 ' Z-TZ 444 - 44444 3 5 4 ' 444 090 ' aeoee 444 4 ee-we ' - 1. 335 : I' ee-o e ' 4-oe 444 4- ' e4-ee ' 444- 4- eeeeo 444 SSL 444 : 0 oee e 444 eeeeoe 4-e4-4 444 4 eeeeee 4-44444- ee-4444. 4-444-ee. 444444. e4-eeee, 0044094- eaeeee, 4-4e4e4-., 444444. 0222254 eeevee 4e4-4414, 444444 eeveee, 444444 ee-sees 44-eel-e 690900 eeoeie 444444- oeoeiv e4-eoee. 444444 e4-eeie 444-444 eeee 0 e - ' H 44 4-ee 444 eaee 04000 one-444 e4-eoeee 00040090 eeeeeeee 444-44-4444 'YZZZZZ44 'Z2?-3344 04-4444444 'YZZZXZ44 44444-444 e4-eeeeee 444-44444- 44444444 4-eeeesee 4444444-4 eeeeeeee 060333299 ee4-e4-ees 4444-4444 eeeeeeee 44444444 4444444 eeee4 4444- e 0 ' 00 400 0090 0900 993:09 40222300 400 0000 0090 0009 0000 0094 0090 0406 9000 0000 33:z,. 0090 0900 9930 0000 4040 e Ol' 00 00 00 90 6 00 04' Q0 0 49 00 69 00 09 90 00 -ll 0 0 0 0 Q0 09 90 0 009 4-ee-ee 44444 eeeebe C 444444- 444444444 0 aeeeeaeeee 4- 444 44444-4444. n 1 ees-ea-ee ee ee-see 4 4444444- 444444-444. e ee eee 444 4 44444 444 04040 4 4- 4- eeeew n ee-44444 444-4 4 4 40000 0904000 4 4 4 4- eeee-4 4444444444 40 4 004' 4-ned-e 1 e-rece ees 4 e es 4- 2 90969 4- 4 4-4444 eee 4- eeebe eeeceeo 4 444444 44 44444- 4 ee e e 4-4444 e-4444. Our ideas of a Christian College must VGry according to our own desires and goals, but we can all unite with Charles Wesley when he said: Unite the pair so long clisioin'd, knowledge and vital piety. At Bethel College we strive for two basic achievements. First, and rightly foremost, we want to see our students grow great souls. We maintain this attitude because we know that the sacred writer was correct when he said that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. There can be no amount of progress in the realm of acquiring wisdom without rekoning with this eternal reality. It is this realization that prompts the emphasis which every teacher and administrator places upon true Christian living at Bethel College, ancl in the world we serve ultimately. Our second attempt lies in the realm of academic advancement. First of all faculty members are making sincere attempts at self-improvement. This has led to tedious summer schools and long hours of study and writing. One by one higher degrees have been acquired along with a whetted appetite for continued striving toward doctoral degrees. This personal improvement by faculty members has been balanced with concerted study of Bethel's offerings in an effort to make every course fit into our total institutional goals. This combination of efforts results from our conviction that a Christian ought to do his best in every realm. With God's blessing we believe we can help fulfill Mr. Wesley's ambition for a happy combin- ation of knowledge and piety. To that end we solicit the continued prayers of our constituency. WILBUR B. Each candidate is required to serve ten hours weekly, without renumeration, in a church mutually arranged for by the pastor and Bethel College. Three hours of college credit are given each semester for this practical, full year course. The prospective pastors are placed under the direction of ministers, with at least five years of experience, who accept the responsibility of designing activities to familiarize the students with church procedure. This often includes assisting in funerals, weddings, communion services, and other important aspects ot the total church program. The assignments cover a broad area by: observation, preparation, visitation, preaching, and teaching. Bi- weekly activity reports are tiled with Reverend R. P. Pannabecker, who super- vises the entire program. Mr. Pannabecker meets with the student pastors each month in an informal discussion of the problems and rewards in their assignments.
