“
Bethel is an image created by people who live, work, study, and enjoy life within its limits. Certainly there is too much happening to be contained in one yearbook, but here we have small glimpses of what made Bethel ' s image in this school year, caught with the eyes of cameras which just happened to be at the scene at the time of occurance. And so, here is our yearbook to help you bring back memories of what you remember as Bethel ' s image in 1972-73. While it was an up and down season, the team won the games which they weren ' t supposed to win, and lost the games in which they were fav- ored. This year ' s team was young and lacking experience, A small squad also hampered the team effort. The outlook for next year looks tremendous! com- mented Coach Corns. The nucleus of the team will be back and winning. The last game w a s a good morale booster for next year. There were some outstanding sta- tistics for the Threshers. Wynn Goering averaged 41. 7 yards per kick this season. Jerome Doyle was the leading scorer for the team, scoring five touchdowns. John Klaassen proved to be the leading ball carrier with 506 yards in 10 games on 126 carries. Phil Everett was the second lead- ing rusher with 373 yards. Mark Funk had the most tackles on defense with 66 solo tackles and 53 assisted tackles. L — In his first year as football Coach at Bethel, Jim Corns graduated from College of Emporia and received his Master ' s from Northwest Missouri State. He has had eight years ' experience, twoyears on the college level. 88 A handful of fans saw the best game of the year, Bethel-23 and 1 conference ranked St. Mary ' s-9 . . . From the Meniionite Classics to the District play-offs , the Threshers played a fantastic season of basketball. During Mennonite Classics, the Threshers set a new record for the most points scored in a championship game with 96 points, and became the first team to win three Classics and retired with the trophy. At times the team slackened, but they kept up the pace enough to go as far as one step away from the NAIA Championship. Coach Bob F a i r b a n k and Buck Shiltz spurred the players on.
