llllllWllllll The thoughts of people tend to turn back- wards, their minds reflecting on past experiences. This reflecting on the past is one of our most valued assets - our memory. ln our reminiscing, we come upon our col- lege days, indeed some of the most pleasant days of our lives. The joy found in recalling some event - enrollment, freshman initiation, an ath- letic contest, commencement, a banquet, a date, yes, even a class lecture - is immeasurable. How- ever, some of these fond memories will not be retained throughout the course of an eventful life. They will sink into oblivion unless some outside force is introduced. It is, therefore, the earnest desire of the C-RAYMAROON staff that this pictorial review of the school year i948-49 will be- a stimulus to your memory so that many cherished experiences will not be forgotten.

llllllllllll DEAN PETER S. GOERTZ I886-i948 Dean of Bethel College l93O-1948 - The good that men do lives after them- ln the minds of many hundreds, perhaps thousands, of students and alumni, Dean Coertz is a significant part of Bethel Col- lege which is as it should be. His unshak- able belief in the good in every one of us is the key to a clear appreciation of his per- sonality. As friend or teacher and as dean he seemed always to elicit andguide, never to dictate, thus helping us to believe in our- selves as well as in him and all that he rep- resents: his philosophy, his religion, his mode of life. Hopeful, helpful, under- standing, patient, inspiring - these were his qualities as mentioned most frequently in the many intimate letters of sympathy to Mrs. Goertz after the Dean's unexpected death in August of 1948. His many acquaintances at home and abroad have found their own lives enriched in knowing him. ,.......?...,...
