T N ilninouw Alphm Conrad Clyde Perkxns l awrence Selm Rudolph Ehnbom John Hedwall Manager Arne Johnson Charles Entner THE HOCKEY TEAM HE 1924 25 hockey season saw Bethel rn actxon for the Hrst time ln the hlstory of the school This was possrble because of the representatron from the arrowhead sportland A scrrmmage wrth Lake Park proved that Bethel had a good team As we could not schedule any games with high schools we were forced to play college teams Although most of the games were lost we felt that there was a great honor rn many of our defeats Some college teams that we played competed w1th the Unrversrty of Wrsconsln and Notre Dame and 1n two cases we lost by onlv one POIHI The forvx ard lme made up a fast and spectacular combxnatron wlth Alphm Conrad at center Arne Johnson and Lawrence Selrn at wrngs The defense was almost rmpregnable with Charles Entner Elmer Johnson and Alv1n Johnson at guard lt looked comlcal to see Rudy Ehnbom freeze some drfflcult shots ln the game w1th Luther College he stopped sxxteen shots and let only two count Season s score Bethel 14 Opponents 12 FOOTBALL SEASON 1924 LTHOUGH the football team of 1924 d1d not wm a smgle game the season was hlghly successful lnsofar as It brought about a partral revival of football rnterest among the student bodv Never before had a Bethel foot ball team performed before such a large audlence of student sport fans and VIS 1tors as the crowd whlch assembled to wltness the Bethel Johnson Hlgh strug gle whlch ended up IH a scoreless txe lggl fl' 1 9 2 ii T H If B li at H31 Q5 U 5 Lei 1 CLUL 'll' L 1 M A 1 . TH RN BASKETBALL SEASON 19 2 5 HE Bethel Academy basketball team ended its season March 73 in a title game for the championship of the Twin City Academic Athletic League with Minnehaha Academy vyhen Minnehaha s lighting quint carried home the trophy after downing the Bethel floor squad in 1 thrilling game 16 13 re viously to this the home boys had chalked up seven victories to their redit and had been charged vyith four defeats All guesses as to the outcome o Hnal game went in Bethel s fayor although Minnehaha vyas conceded a strong iight nv chance of 1 yictory over the favorites But such a luck moaned when Minnehaha captured Bethels one point advantage and then tucked the game away yy hen they scored again in the last minute of pla, w all Losing the championship does not spoil the team s record much anywiy It was the unexpected slump in the last two week of the season that spoiled tl e team s hopes for a l O00 ay erage The Hnal average was XVon Lost Jet Results of all games play ed Bethel Minnesota College Bethel Bethel Minnehaha Academy Bethel Bethel St Paul Academy Bethel Bethel Augsburg Academy Bethel Bethel University High Bethel Uniyersity High Minnesota College Minnehaha Academy Alumni Mmnehaha Academy One prominent fact that can be taken from the above recotd is that th Bethel team played against strong competitors in every game Every opponent can be classed with the first class academic teams Credit for this is due largely to the manager Brainerd Christie who arranged all the games Six of the twelve games were played on the home Hoof and although it was hoped that more home games could be booked the home fans were well satisfied The team was coached by Mr A Stromwall and to him goes much of the credit for leading the team through the season to the victories that it has to its credit Coach Stromwall has had much experience in playing and coaching and the help he gave to the team in as very valuable The individual scoring race has been an interesting sidelight to the General playing cf the team The summary follows lloyd Hanson 5 points John Hedyyall 1 point Substitutes 7 points Lloyd lerining points Roland Erbst poir s Roger Wickstrind Alphm Conrad points points 34 Substitutes who have played at one time or another are Melvin Johnson Arne Johnson Arvid Ciordh David Gibney and Paul Wallendorf Page Szxly hgh! ln 1925-THE BE .iYNL'.Xl,-l925 31' i y C, .
