9 TH 9 A TRIP IN AN AEROPLANE HI golden autumn us the most betutuful season of the year The crops are then ready und rupe to harvest ln the fall of the year 1924 Bethel Academy thought the tume rupe to guther unto uts folds a real freshman class They decuded to send out 1 good scout equupped wuth an aeroplane large enough for fufty or possubly seyenty fuve students Ihe scout set out for the Atlantuc coast nd was lookung for recruuts 'ulong the seashore Howeyer he soon learned that students were too busy to play along the seacoast Wushung to get away from the crowd he went out for a rude landung at Malden Mass Here he heard of a gurl who wus lookung for u school just luke Bethel I'he result was that Vluss Berg was the furst one to clumb unto the plane At Brudgeport Conn they met Paul Ohlun who us tall of stature firm un hus beluef and who also has all the qualutues of a full fledged Swede The purty now started out on a two week trup They crossed the ocean blue and landed un the country of countrues namely Sweden Thus long journey had not been un yaun for they succeeded un persuadung four new recruuts to leave theur beloyed fatherland They were as fol lows Carl Hasselblad Ernest Nelson Martun Eruckson and also a pretty mauden What do you suppose' Upon reachung Ameruca Martun took unto humself a Wufe It was a real rude for they dud not stop untul they came to Sault St Marue Much Surely enough here was a brught brown eyed lass who needed no coaxung to turn her steps towards Bethel So Loretta youned the merry group Beung near Wusconsun they must see uts beautuful towns and yullages The next place whuch receuved a vusut was Balsam Iake At 1 home where they stayed was a very motherly lookung gurl Thought the scout what a woman she would make uf she would come to Bethel and study Domestuc Scuence and sumular studues Immeduatelv she came packed her grups and was off Agaun they soared luke a burd unto the free atmosphere Someone had guyen them unforma tuon concernung a prospectuve student who wus now at Rock Island Ill They were fortunate enough to End Mr Johnson at home Havung guven Bethel a thought before he decuded to go wuth them Johnson oftered hus seryuce as presudent of the class All rejouced over thus and wondered where they would find a reluable young man for yuce presudent Some one suggested goung to Duluth and thus they sped across the country They found Eruc Syolund herdung cat tle Truly ut was a pathetuc scene as he saud good bye to the bossues I'hey were now yery near to the border lune and wushed to see the country on the other sude At Alberta Canada they had the good fortune of meetung Alyun Johnson Yes he was workung the first tume we saw hum and has been domg so eyer sunce He was standung by now turned back to the States goung through Bowden Mont Where they pueked up Vu tor I ruckson Iryung Pllus who hurled from the Dakota praurues was askung questuons contunuously Berger Swendson a boy who neyer had tume to go out wuth gurls also came from Dakota They now steered theur course to Muuunesota Seemungly they were destuned to stop ut Rose hull Steppung out of the plane th y overheard the followung duulogue Vyell Ida have you decuded what school you are to enter, Wo Fyelyn hoyv about yourself Oh I am sure I don t know I do want to go where We can haye a Good tume A few moments of sulence and a new youce was heard Gurls you remember the young man who was here last summer He had attended a yery good sehool at St Paul Just thunk the way he a mer boy yyould speak un publue Oh yes Vlargaret we do remember The seouts and recruuts seu7ed the opportunuty The gurls unstantly youned the flyung squadron Idgur Peterson better lfnown as our freshman eurtoonust was added to the group at St Cloud -Xt Elk Ruyer ut w as theur pruyulege to make the acquauntanee of .1 bashful but sweet Swedush muuden Punally Flla decuded to go along At St Paul there was a throng of new students who had guthered to wsl ome others from far und near Muss Iaeobson was also there and we haye enjoyed her guudanee throughout the yeur XVe wush to take thus opportunuty to evpress our pprecuatuon of her neyer turung serxuce Our first and as many say hardest year us oyer Next September yy w ull not need a scout to dureet us to Bethel 'yVe wull all come back to make next yeur as great 1 success as thus one hus been Page Foriy Nm: 1 25-THE BIS ANNUAL-I 25 V 1 T K 1 ' ' ' ' ' u s V ' Vs - .
