You Went A Long Way KabyS The Bethany Flying Fillies finished their season with a 17-10 record. The Fillies fought hard and went a long way. After defeating Sullivan and Ar- thur in the regional tourney at Sullivan, they trav- eled to Tolono for the Sectional. After a tough bat- tle the Fillies were defeated by Jamaca-Sidell 73-69 in overtime. This years Fillies went farther than any team from Bethany has ever gone. Aside from bringing home the trophies from winning the re- gional and getting 2nd place in the sectional, they also brought home trophies from 5th place in the Newton Holiday tourney and 1st place in the Areola tourney. The Fillies were led by Jodi Foster who set two state records. Her four year career total was a record 2,371 points and her season total was a record 867 points. She received the free throw award for three years and the most valuable player award all four years. She was chosen to be on the Chicago Tribune All-State Team and was selected as one of the top 15 players in the state by the Champaign News Ga- zette. The Decatur Herald named her to be the area player of the year. Congratulations to the Flying Fillies for a super season! Senior night The sad ending of a great season. GIRLS BASKETBALL JV Squad; L-R: Jackie Sheehan, Kim Gregory, Elaine Lewis, Jana Holthaus, Leann Calhoun, Jackie McMahan, Rita Kesterson, Donna Mor- ris, Lisa Bailey, Lori Dorris, and Coach, Merlin Jones. The Bethany Flying Fillies J. V. girls are coached by Mr. Merlin Jones, Superintendant, alias Mr. Green Jeans. They always put up a good fight to anyone who crosses their path and they fin- ished their season with a 10-6 record. Thev are also the backbone of the cheering section at Varsity games. They really boost the Var- sity girls with their cheers, espe- cially during tournament time. JR. HIGH GIRLS BASKETBALL 8th Grade Intramural Team; L- R: Kelly Waggoner, Ondrea Emmons, Colette Gooden, Pau- la Hower, Chris Brewer, Jody Bates, Mrs. Crane, Michelle Fitzgerald, Kelly Adams, Jana Foster, Jill Miller, Rhonda Gregory, Melissa McReynolds, and Kari Harmon. This is the second year for Jr. High girls intramural bas- ketball. The girls worked on the different techniques of bas- ketball with help from the high school girls and Mrs. Crane. 23
